SMG2, done once before and was amazing
NSMB2, done something like ten times before and the two direct prequels were...passable

Oh, I was only addressing the things you brought up in your table. Questions such as quality, "how much" it's like the original, and other such factors aren't caught in a simple "Yes or No" response.

Do you really expect consistency from video game reviewers?

I personally think NSMB2 is far from being praised as much as it has, however it still is not a bad game.
With all the Mario platform games, it doesn't fit in the top 15 for me.

Which is why the mentioned features are framed in a way that allows them to be answered with either "yes" or "no". I was hoping you would be giving a more practical response, like in this or that aspect SMG2 and NSMB2 are clearly different which would justify the difference in their scores. Although SMG2 is just one of many examples that could be used. There are really countless sequels that got away with just a little bit more, a little bit better. |
SMG - 97
SMG 2 - 97
NSMB - 89
NSMB 2 - 78
The prequels' qualities, according to those reviewers, were very different from each other. Perhaps it's likely that when you have such an amazing quality game, reviewers are more lenient when you repeat a lot of the aspects. When you repeat a lot of the aspects found in an 89 reviewed game, they are less lenient.
The extent to which features are repeated and their overall enjoyment, regardless of similarities, is what drives review scores. Sorry for not getting super detailed and giving insights into certain aspects, I just feel like it's fairly unnecessary and I just finished a 10 hour work day. I figured it would be enough to merely bring up why the basis for your argument is off a bit.

I will buy my first Mario game since the N64 thanks to all those golden coins.
How many copies is this perdicted to sell? 5 million? 10 million?
Rol back in action.
I've only gone through world 3, however. I'm mixing my NSMB2 with TLS

In whose opinion? Your, the haters, Nintendo fans, profession critics, or Nintendo's?
maybe it's the difficulty made for three years old or for people they advertise with, models/actors with long nails. i don't have the game but if the game is really as easy as i read then i don't see what the fun is in this mario game. running and jumping without any difficulty through the end? sounds super boring...
don't know but user scores on amazon or metacritics seem to dislike it also compared to the first one, there has to be a reason for that and not "bias"
Reviewers don't like 2D platformers as much?
