Forums - Nintendo - This rampant Wii U hate does not seem logical

Nintendo does not really diverge information to the media. As a result they have to fill-in the blanks when reporting on what the company is doing.

Unfortunately, what grabs the most attention are articles painted in a negative light. Good news does not really bring in the customers, unless it is a megaton (in the case of gaming.)

Other cases though I cannot explain. Some appear to just hate for hating's sake. There are gamers who used to be fans of Nintendo, but the product no longer serves them. With the Wii generation this was more obvious then ever in Nintendo's history (even worse then Gamecube I'm afraid). Gaming media is geared towards the 13- 40 year old male crowd, and outside of 1st party titles, only about 5 Wii games appealed to them, and they were severely behind graphically as well as lacking in the online component. All the other test game attempts were bastard versions of popular franchises.

The hate comes from disappointment, but ironically, not because of what Nintendo has done most of the time.

THe hate for hating's sake is the main thing I'm wondering about.

I'm am a long time Nintendo fan and I do hope the Wii U is successful, but I am not excited for the Wii U at this time. When the SNES came out I remember being obsessed with it, even more so for the N64. I was too into Halo to be super excited for the Gamecube, but I enjoyed it. The same goes for the Wii. Right now the problem with the Wii U, for me, is it's tech isn't a generation leap and none of the launch games appeal to me. I didn't care about or even want motion controls with the Wii so it took Mario, Zelda, and Metroid to convince me to buy it a few years in. I feel the same about the tablet controller and right now there's no 3D Mario or Zelda or Metroid. I could look past the hardware limits if I had a 3D Mario or a Zelda to get excited about. I know I'll get a Wii U eventually, when the games I buy Nintendo consoles for finally come out. But right now I have no real reason to spend my money on a Wii U. I don't think the media is against Nintendo, but I think they are skeptical and they are expressing that skepticism. It's not a journalist's job to tell fans what they want to hear.

I get that the hating is a little rampant but where are these positive responses?? Because it seems that most people simply dont care and the ones that do are kinda few in number

I blame part of it on the fact that humans not only love, but seek doom and gloom on a regular basis. Worldwide headlines are always written with doomed bias in order to scare people and draw more attention. Doom is the tactic used almost all the time for those with an agenda who want to motivate people.

People chose Nintendo to be the doom and gloom subject in the video game industry years ago. Anything they do, people will want to seek out drama and doom.

Well because gamers aren't that excited for it. Nintendo hasn't shown any games that really cater to it's hardcore fanbase. It's hardcore fanbase are the ones that make their voices heard on blogs, through friends, and on forums. Pikmin 3 is the only game that really does that, and it was never one of their best sellers. If Nintendo took steps to bring back it's hardcore crowd then they would own the best of both worlds, considering they already have the casual market. From personal experience, many of my friends have drifted away from Nintendo due to the Wii.(although I'm not one of them).

There is this weird thought that if you're not a Nintendo fan then you most be a Nintendo hater, so if gaming sites think this way then they just make all the hate and doom articles because it will give them more views, thus more money

Nintendo and PC gamer

Opinions are formed from something, not nothing. Yes-senationalizing negative news does get more hits on a website, and some areas of gaming journalism use this tactic. For me personally, and I suspect the same for some of this journalism you are referring to is: Nintendo made Mario 64 which was on the cutting edge of console graphics and unlike anything I had ever seen before

I almost shit my pants when I saw Mario 64, we are talking quantum leaps in what had been seen. People remember that type of experience, and want to relive it.
So subsequently, these same people are a little disappointed when Nintendo unveils another derivative 2D Mario or Nintendoland.. Where is the holy shit Mario 64 experience that formed my view of Nintendo in the first place.

If Nintendo isn't Creating that holy shit moment, then there must be enough people supporting Nintendo land-type titles to make the company financially viable.

And that just... Sucks.
And that is why the other half of the gaming journalism posts negative articles about Nintendo- because simply put.. They want more, and so do I.

This, why cant one simply not care about Ninty one way or the other? why does it have to be love/hate

I certainly don't see it that way but it is a nice interpreation.

The main thing I pointed out, though, is the fact that they is no prescensce of desire or hope for something better. What I'm seeing is hate for the sake of hate and disdain for good news. These writers seem to have an "emotional" investment in this hatred.

The other thing is that if what oniyide and the others say is true about games opinions, then would that been even better for storming up the negative news? The thing is that its not true. Most news article that give unbiased coverage of the Wii U are packed with good will and high expectations in the comments with the occasional anti-Nintendo troll who gets thumbed down to oblivion.

They can't have looked at too many news articles if they think the general opinion is that gamers don't care. If they don't care then the negative news would get no more hits than any other. If gamers didn't like it then(once again) it would serve to bring about even more hits.

Gaming media seems to be suppresing or avoiding good willa for Nintendo.

I guess since the release of the Wii and its "kiddy" games, people a different perception of Nintendo, and the media exaggerates it.
