I blame part of it on the fact that humans not only love, but seek doom and gloom on a regular basis. Worldwide headlines are always written with doomed bias in order to scare people and draw more attention. Doom is the tactic used almost all the time for those with an agenda who want to motivate people.
People chose Nintendo to be the doom and gloom subject in the video game industry years ago. Anything they do, people will want to seek out drama and doom.
