Nice move to backwards compatibility... PS1, PS2, PC, etc.

How is it backwards compatibility when you have to re-buy these games?

As someone said above, you can just put your game in and when the PS4 or whatever detects the disc it'll allow you to stream the game. This is what was done with the PSP-Vita program in Japan.

I just noticed something that made me lol.

Sony invested 1 billion USD in the cell processor and spends another 400 million to buy a company to avoid backwards compatibility issues with it so they can finally ditch it. Kind of ironic, isn't it?

At the beginning of this generation and a couple of years in, the cell processor was a myth and oh so powerful even though games did not show it.

I don't think they'll use it just for backwards compatibility though.

"In a world where Instagram sells for $1bn, Sony's $380m acquisition of Gaikai looks like an astute piece of business that could potentially revolutionise its PlayStation business."

"OnLive is being mooted as a Microsoft acquisition target but with valuations as high as $1.8bn, the Sony's Gaikai tie-up looks like even more of a bargain."

OnLive valuation at $1.8bn and it's not even as good. Smart move getting Gaikai. The deal with Samsung that Gaikai made already should stay in place also, get Playstation branded content onto those TVs as well all for that single buyout price.

i have no clue about all these services but if onlive would cost much more, shouldn't there be a reason why it costs more? why does it cost more if it isn't as good? is it on the stock market and that's the reason? (like i said, i don't really know these companies that's why i ask). and if this onlive isn't so good, microsoft should start an own service. shouldn't be so hard for them to start this kind of service with their experience.

Ms doesnt even need Gakai or onlive. They have Azure.

Yay!!!

Azure might be missing valuable patents and other capabilities, but I suppose it's better than from the ground up.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Lol true.

Every software companyin the world.

I need all teh patents so no loo-suitzzz.

Yay!!!

Now that I think about it, with this move Sony may have bigger plans for Gaikai than just streaming videogames.

If the infrastructure as it is now can handle hundreds of people playing at the same time, with info going in both directions, why can't they use it also to stream music or movies? Sony music is now the biggest publisher in the world after buying EMI, and they are also big in the movie industry.

Imagine if the users of Gaikai could have access to all that for just a few $/€. Wouldn't you sign in?

They do have Video Unlimited too but thats not on as many devices, but doesnt make your point meaningless your right they may want to move these services on to the Gaikai infrastructure if its cheaper to run than there current set up. It may also be a more flexible setup allowing for more features.
