Forums - Nintendo - Skyward Sword was the worst Zelda I have played. We need to talk about this.

Nonsense, best Zelda ever! 83 24.13%

I agree, worst one yet! 64 18.60%

The worst Zelda ever was Windwaker, but Skyword Sword is the runner up. This game had no Atmosphere, nothing to explore, and this senseless running around was just annoying. The only interesting thing where the last fights. The motion controls where decent but they overdid it. I mean the used for everything, and this got so annoying after a while. One of the biggest dissapointments in gaming history. I hope the next one will not be such boring piece of crap, and will be worthy the title.

Worst Zelda? Possibly. Best motion controlled game ever? Definitely.

I got the game the Wednesday after it released, played it for a couple of hours, and never wanted to play it again.  I picked it up a month later. Once I got over my hatred for the controls (and Kikwi), I began to love the game.  It doesn't compare to the first time I played Link to the Past, or that magical moment when I stepped into 3D Hyrule for the first time.  It doesn't match the overall polish and epic boss fights of Twilight Princess (and Fi can't hold a candle to Midna in the awesome sidekick department) but I found the game to be extremely enjoyable.  It's like a mishmash of all of the great things I liked about Zelda in the past.

  • Cartoony art style like Wind Waker
  • Amazing music (like pretty much all of the Zelda games)
  • Breaks new ground like OoT
  • Great story like Twilight Princess
  • Light/Dark wold like Link to the Past
  • much more but you get the idea

In the end, it's a Zelda game.  That means that we get what we expect to get from the series.  I'm not going to buy a Call of Duty game and get pissed because there is no racing section.  I'm not going to buy Street Fighter and dislike the lack of puzzle segments.  I'm not going to dislike Skyward Sword for being a Zelda game, either.  I had too much fun with it.

Oh, there's an OP? I guess I should read that.

Thanks for posting this. Since the day this game came out, I have felt lingering sadness about having not played it. I have a Wii, but I refuse to buy another accessory for a console I can't stand and never touch anymore just to play this game on general principle. Still, it bothered me that a Zelda game exists that I have not played, since a list of my favorite games ever reads a lot like a list of console Zelda games. This post made me feel better!

It's overrated just like every overrated game out there, and why you should never listen to reviews, another overrated game recently is mass effect 3 oh god that game made me hate bioware with a passion , I feel like I am never going to buy another game from them ever.

Then don't. I'm sure they're currently jumping off their building in despair.

i think its the best Zelda yet!

i just love how the enemies become more like a puzzle and they are like that for a reason> to not just swing the sword like a maniac in turn making it more realistic.

now i would have proffered an open world to a hub but there is so much goo in the game that its ok.
and i do not want as much help as i got in the game. also the fetch quests were one too many

im pretty sure the next game will be open like the other Zeldas though i just hope they don't go back to buttons again as that's just not as fun as swinging a sword trying to figure out how to beat your enemies!

The game was too damn linear and there were no difficult enemies at all.

It says +12 on the package, but that's bullshit. It was made for the whole family to (be able to) watch, but even as a linear game it would be too boring for them. The game put the series to shame (which is reflected through its sales), especially when we now have the epicness of Skyrim to compare it to.

They need to go back to their roots and expand from there instead for replacing them altogether.

Ummm. I seriously hope you are kidding.

No Zelda game is made for the whole Family to watch. That would be the most boring time ever for the people who are left to watch the one guy having fun; the one who's playing the game.

Sales reflect nothing. It's an end of life-time Zelda. It's not going to sell that well.

I couldn't disagree with this more.  I am not the biggest motion control fan at all, but I'm not 100% opposed to motion controls in general either.  That being said, motion controls in Zelda just feel like a huge intrusion into something I loved for 20 years.  It wasn't broken, so why did they fix it?  I would much rather solve puzzles with my brain than by waggling my arms about.  I just feel like the whole thing is gimmicky and that, much like with the rest of Nintendo's business, their increased focus on those gimmicks has detracted from the qualities that made their titles so fun and charming to begin with.
