Forums - Nintendo - Skyward Sword was the worst Zelda I have played. We need to talk about this.

I personally found the game really enjoyable, the combat was really good and the story is also pretty good. But there were 2 thing I didn't like about the game:

1- The lack of exploration: when you're in the sky 90% of the islands don't have anything in them (unless you got the goddess cube thing) it really takes the immersion of exploration like Wind Waker had, it's just a really boring over-world

2- What the heck happen to night!?: maybe some people will consider this nitpicking but I hate the lack of things you can at night, modern Zelda games do a really good job while exploring the land in the night, it sometimes feel like a different world with so much stuff do do. SS took it away, there are only 3 places you can go at night: Skyloft, the pumpkin place and Beedle's place, and aside for some side-quest and getting the gratitude crystal there isn't anything to do, again just plain boring.

Well those are my only complaints, there are other things but these 2 are the mayor ones I can think of right now. It's a great game but definitely not the best in the series

While I disagree with you, I respect your opinion since you at least didn't call it "Skyward Bored."

its not bad, im liking it, sure its not better than OOT or even my beloved MM, or TP or WW. Okay but its still good, maybe not 10/10 good

That's because Aonuma is getting worse with every release.

I may be the only one, but I really enjoyed the feel of Wind Waker a lot, with the whole pirate-like exploration, adventure thing going on.

What Skyward Sword really needed to do was be like Skies of Arcadia when it approached its many sky islands to give you that adventure feel. It was a good game and I enjoyed it a lot. I'll place it second for my Zelda list, right under Wind Waker :D

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

Well im really not far in it at all like 3 dungeons completed maybe but so far its not as good as windwaker or twilight princess.

They probably did not need to give it a 10. But I have had a lot of fun with it. I to am low on time or I would play it more. Now I am lucky to play a few online matches with Goldeneye. I think Savior was expecting too much.

Way too much quality to give this a 6/10. You give broken games like Ged 3D a 6/10. Way too low Savior. Extreme statements are usually ignored in this world.

Spurge....

I beat Skyward Sword back in March...and since then I had time to sit and reflect on what the game did right and wrong, and how it stacked up to older Zeldas...

There were things it did do right. There were moments where I was excited during combat and surprised at the subtlety of certain details. Despite the good times though, there are many reasons people did not bother to finish even half of it; my own brothers refused to play the game at all once they saw the artstyle.

I give it a 6/10 for a Zelda game; it does beat the quality of many other games out there, but that is what I expect. Out of all videogame franchises on earth, there are few I hold to a higher standard then Zelda, especially when we have waited 5 years for it (supposedly it took that long to make...I doubt it.). When I was younger, I would reenact Zelda scenarios/characters with my friends at recess for pete's sake. When I bought Skyward Sword, I spent 70 dollars on the game and Wii Motion Plus; I never spent that much money on one solitary item in my entire life up to that point; it is the most expensive videogame I have purchased!

Was I expecting too much, actually no. I was wary of the reviews and did not expect perfection because the formula was said to have undergone a change. However, the final product felt empty at times, which is a shame. When you know the excellence a series is capable of, seeing it fall short makes you a sad panda.

you paid 70 for it?! no wonder you mad. im surprised it took you that long to get a motion+

One could build a whole game around one of Skyward Sword's puzzles.

Lack of exploration didn't bother me, because I knew well beforehand that Skyward Sword was created to be more "Metroid-like" in design (and appreciated the concept). What really bothered me was how Nintendo failed to leverage the new structure to its potential since the ground areas lack the connectivity needed to facilitate multiple paths of progression and backtracking. Plus the rewards for backtracking were almost nonexistent.

Even so, I personally give Skyward Sword a 10 large on the principle that Nintendo was doing something different with Zelda. Call me crazy, but I believe that purism can be as dangerous to a franchise as change is.

Finally someone agrees with me. I was so let down by that shitty game, but everyone else seemed to love it. Whatever, at least you agree with me....
