Nice thread idea. My name is Jacob and my PSN ID is Rendermonk. I'm 29, will be 30 in October and gaming is my passion, hobby, addicition, whatever you wanna call it :) I have vivid memories of playing arcade games at the movie theater when I was younger, and do miss those days.

I love all types of games except, Shooters, Sports, and Racing. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions in those categories: I loved Uncharted, Mass Effect, Gears of War to name a few. As far as sports go, I always felt that they were best enjoyed outside if I'm going to play. But my favorite genres have got to be RPG's, Strategy, and Action/Adventure. I'm also very fond of Platformers, but we just don't see 'em like we used to :( Yea, there's still some, but not like they were 1-2 decades ago. I can appreciate almost any game in any genre if it's a well made game. I have either owned or played every system out there since the days of Atari - now.

Currently I own a PS3 and Vita, but plan to get the WiiU later this year :)

Hello my name is Train Wreck and I used to be a videogame fanatic but have since moved on (to a certain extent). I am 30 years old and have been gaming since 1987. Our NES arrived on Valentines Day 1988 and the first game was Tiger Heli.

Like Euphoria I never settled on having only one system by one sole manufacturer. I have owned and currently own:

Atari 7800, NES, SNES, Genesis with SegaCD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube, Wii, Sega Nomad, GB micro, DS lite, PSP 1000, 3DS and Vita.

One of my first jobs was working at a Funcoland (circa ~2000, currently gamestop) where I was able to stock rare games/systems, get items from videogame reps (Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft and many stuff I still have). Many friends who I met there are still good friends of mine today, it was fun times.

I love LOVE fighting games, have been since the days of playing Street Fighter 2 at my local arcade putting quarters on the cabinet for playing next. From Ranma 1/2 to Street Fighter Vs Tekken with Clayfighter in between, there is really no fighting game I have not touch. Virginia has a pretty good fighting game scene, so even though the arcade has come and gone (still around though), I still get to play some of the best people the genre has to offer.

I also love RPGs (W/J/Strategy/MMO) and especially the music. My first encounter in the genre was Final Fantasy 2 which was given to me by a friend who did like it because he called it a "Reading Game" and thought it was boring. I like Nobuo Uematsu and his work, got the chance to see him in concert at magfest in DC.

I loved the age of discovery for both genres back in the early 90s, there was no internet back in the day so you learn moves by word of mouth or by just pressing stuff (I used to sell copies of Mortal Kombat 2 finishing moves to kids in middle school). Or dying to Ultima by the Magic Master in Final Fantasy 3 after you spent the time going up the tower of fanatics and not saving. We also used to trade systems among friends in the neighborhood to expand peoples gaming reach. You dont see many of that today.

Now a days I dont spend too much time playing, the time I do is soaked up mostly by the 360 and PC.

Hi, I'm JEMC and, what a surprise, I adore video games and I've been playing them since I got my hands on one of those portable LCD machines that let you play one game. My first one was a F1 game.

I've played/owned : several of those LCD machines, NES, Master System II, Mega Drive, Game Gear, Game Boy, SNES, Playstation, Playstation 2, GameCube, Wii and Xbox360. And of couse several PCs.

My favourite games are Super Mario World, Sonic and Age of Empires I & II. Yes, they're old. But they hold a special place in my heart.

Even so, my favourite genre is adventure and action games (at least acording to my profile).

My name is Diego and I love video games. I'm not much of an online gamer on my consoles but I do play a ton of MMO and MOBA style games competitively. On my PS3 (and Wii by this friday) I focus on Single player and co-op/local multiplayer games the likes of Rock band, motorstorm series, Tekken, Little big planet so on.

I am a Sony fan first and foremost. My first console was a NES, followed by a SNES then PS2 and so on. My favorite genre of games are RPGs, leaning mostly on JRPGs. As for the other consoles, I have recently purchased a used Wii and plan to play my already-owned copy of Xenoblade chronicles and The Last story in July, although I don't plan to use it for much more than that. I have also owned a DS, but I lost it or it was stolen 3 years ago, yet I managed to play KH, Pokemon diamond, Children of Mana, and other titles. I still own my PSP and have played various games on it and is still my number 1 source for all things JRPG. I have recently modded to fit SNES emulators and relive some memories.

While I have nothing against the xbox (not anymore) I'm not a fan of its main series because of its focus on shooter s and online play. It does have a some great titles, but they are not my cup of tea.

Video games are a big part of my life and I see myself playing them until I'm too weak to throw my controller against the wall in a fit of rage. They are my favorite pass time, but are not the only thing I do.

I started gaming back in the late 90s. I think the first game I've ever played was some Mario game on the SNES. I then migrated to the Playstation One. My parents bought me games like Crash Bandicoot and Namco museum. I dabbled a little into games like Resident Evil & Driver, but I really never strayed from those first two games. When the PS2 released, I finally got to choose which games I wanted. I had too many games to own but my most played was definitely Grand Theft Auto . Then when I got a Gamecube, and most of my time was spent on Super Smash Bros. I interchanged between those two systems for a while before I finally got a Wii in 2007, an Xbox 360 in 2008, and my own PS3 in 2009 (though I had access to one in 2007).

These past few years, I've went back to last gen to catch up on a lot of games that I was too young to notice. I've even went back to the PS1 / N64 era to play some of their gems (via illegal emulators). But I only played the Super Mario 64 & Zelda: OOT for a few hours. The controls were too dated for me to play through. I mainly played PS2 games. I find a lot of games that I missed like the Hitman series, Shadow of The Collosus, the Metal Gear Solid series, Resident Evil 4, and much more! This gen, I've spent most of my time on the HD consoles with a fair amount of time on the Wii whenever it gets a good game.

My favorite types of games are action adventure games. Shadow of The Collosus is probably my favorite game in this area. The game's controls were so simple and everything was happening through the gameplay. Every collosi was a blast and a puzzle to defeat. It's one of the few games that actually knows how to do a cinematic feel without casualizing the gameplay. I was dissapointed to find out that there are no more games similar to it. Games like Zelda & Demon's Souls are also some of my favorites in this genre.

Another one of my favorite genres is the stealth genre. These games offer a good mind challenge and can be very tense when hiding around characters. These are the only games where you can really sit back and analyze your opponents without engaging them. My favorite stealth games have come from last gen. Hitman, Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, and Socom were my favorites. Sadly, this gen has been pretty devoid of many good stealth games. Metal Gear Solid 4 was the only good one for me. Splinter Cell went the action route, and unfortunately, my favorite stealth series, Hitman, seems to be going action too. It's a shame really, and one of my problems with this generation. All this casual crap can go for all I care!

I started gaming on a Commodore 64 and a NES around 1989, Megaman, Mario, Duck Hunt, Spy Hunter (Commodore) and other classics were my portal into gaming. I started playing on the PC in the early 90's, arguably the best era yet for PC gaming. Games like Warcraft, Lands of Lore, Betrayal at Krondor, Dune, Ultima Underworld and other incredible titles paved the way for an interest in deeper games.

RPG's are without a doubt my favourite and has been for a long time but I also enjoy good FPS games and racers. The latter two have to have something to offer though, Half-Life and Gran Turismo series are the perfect examples for me, they are deep and engaging and have incredibly well balanced and fun gameplay and the both revolutionized their respective genres.

Sometimes, I can simply sit down and enjoy silly fun as well, like Burnout, Need for Speed or Doom.

In the RPG world, I'm most fond of epic titles like Baldur's Gate (I have a soft-spot for D&D games since childhood), Neverwinter Nights and good old fashioned dungeon crawlers. Some of my favourite RPG titles are as follows;

Betrayal at Krondor, Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale I and II, Neverwinter Nights I and II, Stone Prophet, Lands of Lore, Ultima Underworld, The Witcher I and II, Temple of Elemental Evil, Risen, Gothic I, II and III, Might & Magic VII and VIII, Sacred, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Final Fantasy VII, X and XII and a lot more.

Those of you who have been here a while know that I'm not fond of the general direction gaming has taken lately, things are getting simplified and diluted for the sake of broad appeal and this is slowly choking especially the RTS, TBS, FPS and RPG genres. I can enjoy mindless things myself on occassion but I hardly want it to become the norm for an entire industry. Games have too much to offer as a medium to end up as trashy entertainment gloss for the Michael Bay fan club devotees in my opinion.

Anyway, I currently own a good gaming PC (obviously) which gives me 99% of my gaming needs (again, obviously), a PS3 and a 360. I have owned/have in storage a NES, N64, Commodore 64, Amiga 500, Sega Megadrive, Atari Lynx (my only handheld through the years), PS1, PS2 and some that I don't know where are...

I'm older than most others.
I dislike and therefore don't play FPS, BEU/fighting or any horror game (regardless of genre).
I'd like to be able to play but mostly fail at 2D JnR and SHMUP.

The rest I either still enjoy (point&click adv, action adv, RPG, RTS, TBS, economic/building/managerial sim, 3D JnR) or enjoyed at some point in my life (football/soccer, ice hockey, racing, flight sim).

i don't play many FPS but i have to say i really enjoy the FPS mage/spell in Skyrim in the caves/dungeons great fun

you don't like horror i thought quite a few of those PC games are kind of horror i see you mention,or do you mean shotgunning zombies kind of horror
