Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii U controller be for hardcore gamers?

LoL. "Harcore gamers" Viral marketers are hilarious.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Actually they did, the idea of streaming content from a console device to another machine, was done with the PSP years ago. and the Vita does it now (with a few games) The only thing Ninty is doing is taking that concept and putting it in a "tablet" and addng a bunch more functionality. Hell i could probably find a device that did this prior to PSP, Do some research

*Researches*

But Sony was developing that PSP technology since 1985, so bringing up the GBA is irrelevant.

I haven't tried it myslef, but it seems a bit uncomfortable to me, not because of the distance between hands (I guess you can get used to that pretty quickly), but mostly because the tablet form doesn't seem too ergonomic to be holding it for a long time. Does it have a space to put your finger comfortably?

But as I said, I haven't actually tried it myself, so once I do I may change my mind completely.

Back in Feb. there were rumors of a revision of the tablet controller, a revision that was unveiled last week. In those rumors they posted this image:

So yes, there's space for your fingers.

If by "hardcore gamer" you mean "people who stick to one or maybe two genres (like maybe FPS) and just play everything within that/those genres to death", then no, it won't.

But if you mean actual hardcore gamers, in the connotation that the term was originally coined, then yes, it most certainly will. It'll be able to play everything that all other controllers can, but also have a whole new range of possibilities too, allowing for a much more complex and immersive experience.

I completely agree.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

That actually looks quite ergonomic, yes. I'll have to give it a try when I have the chance.

Gamecube/Game&watch compatibility predates 1985, everybody knows that.

If being an harcore gamer means remaining stuck to a 1996 controller design for 20+ years and be proud of it than no, the WiiU controller is not meant for hardcore gamers.

oh please, give me a break, motion controls were so great because we know they could work well with EVERY genre and type of game out there.  Yep that turned out real well. The "hardcore" wasnt opposed to new types of control methods, they were opposed to those that will obviously either not add much or not be functional with all types of games.

OT, it will be an actual controller, so it will be all good. This controller will serve far more genres than the Wiimote could. without attachments. Of course you cant play your dance and fitness games, but thank god the system is backward compatablie

So you're saying motion controls don't help that many genres? What about Sony showing off the Move working with nearly every genre under the sun at the last two E3s?  The only genres that it really didn't help out was 2D fighters, and probably 2D platformers, but even with that said, serious Street Fighter/Tekken players use fightsticks, so it's not like the traditional controller setups were useful in that situation either.

If the hardcore cared for motion, then they would have been on board with at least the Move.

(*^_^*) haha, yea, your right Benao87, I can see you and I will become great friends here. According to research, sony was developing the duelshock controller years before the SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM hit the market. Okay, let me get back on track here. The Wii U controller will be fine for hardcore gamers, it will be great for some genres and not so great in others. No controller is perfect though, not even the Duel shock.

Hardcore gamer = gamer who is proud of not playing Nintendo systems because he has grown up.

Wii U = Nintendo system.

It doesn't matter what Nintendo does, it will be considered the wrong way. But if a non-Nintendo company produces a basically identical controller, it will be considered the right way.

This is true. =(
