Will the Wii U controller be for hardcore gamers?

Back in Feb. there were rumors of a revision of the tablet controller, a revision that was unveiled last week. In those rumors they posted this image:

 So yes, there's space for your fingers.

But if you mean actual hardcore gamers, in the connotation that the term was originally coined, then yes, it most certainly will. It'll be able to play everything that all other controllers can, but also have a whole new range of possibilities too, allowing for a much more complex and immersive experience.
