Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii U controller be for hardcore gamers?

If being an harcore gamer means remaining stuck to a 1996 controller design for 20+ years and be proud of it than no, the WiiU controller is not meant for hardcore gamers.

I couldnt have said it better myself. Why are some video gamers so opposed to evolving?

Imagine if they refused to try dual analogs when they first came out.

What a useless piece of work.

"The specs list is so vast that this could even be classed as a games console more than a game controller."

Yeah, right...

With actual analogue sticks (rather than circle pads) there will be no difference between this controller and any other apart from the distance between your hands (as if that would be hard to get used to). And on top of that, they will probably release a standard controller (or keep releasing CCP) so that +2 multiplayer on FPS titles is even possible.

Well it's basically a controller, just with a screen in the middle and some gadgets.

Yes: Because it's basically a controller.

No: Because I'll be looking at my TV anyway, when am I going to want to look down towards the controller? O.o

Should do fine for RPG's, RTS's etc though. :)

How can you get feedback from gamers who have never touched nor utilized the system or tablet.......

One more week people...

If by "hardcore gamer" you mean "people who stick to one or maybe two genres (like maybe FPS) and just play everything within that/those genres to death", then no, it won't.

But if you mean actual hardcore gamers, in the connotation that the term was originally coined, then yes, it most certainly will. It'll be able to play everything that all other controllers can, but also have a whole new range of possibilities too, allowing for a much more complex and immersive experience.

Aside from the screen, the controller has a traditional layout, so unlike the Wii remote, it should be good to go for all those core games.

Wow, so glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Gaming really needs to move on from the 1997 dualshock template.

No, because it's Nintendo. We'll observe the goal posts migrate in spectacular fashion in 8 days.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Analog stick(s) actually did face some opposition when they were introduced to game consoles.
