Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii U controller be for hardcore gamers?

lol those who call themselves hardcore and limit themselves to shooters, blood and gore are so kiddy!

I view hardcore as an open minded person ready to try anything new out there

Yes, we've gone over this a million times before Roma, you should evolve. There is more to the idea of core or hardcore than guns and sex.

I understand you have a frame of mind that's hard to shake because anti-Nintendo trolls have beaten it into your head, but realize that there are many themes in the world that can cater to a gamer, and not all of it needs to be rosy.

What's so wrong about his view? People who do limit themselves to only Shooters should be considered Casual. People who have actually tried and enjoy other games are the actual Core Gamers.

Don't worry Pie, there's nothing wrong with his opinion. It's his view that's wrong. Everytime someone mentions hardcore, he and those like him assume "Blood, sex and violence". It's just that everytime it's the same thing. That's what I meant by evolve.

If by "hardcore gamer" you mean "people who stick to one or maybe two genres (like maybe FPS) and just play everything within that/those genres to death", then no, it won't.

But if you mean actual hardcore gamers, in the connotation that the term was originally coined, then yes, it most certainly will. It'll be able to play everything that all other controllers can, but also have a whole new range of possibilities too, allowing for a much more complex and immersive experience.

lol I've heard that argument before....

to which the result was this

forgive me if I'm a little skeptical this time

you don't say :-O

I, I think I just evolved a bit....

NintendoPie: you shouldn’t question Happy as he knows right from wrong even though he just repeated what I said

My only problem with the Wii U controller is that is really doesn't look comfortable to hold. The sides have an edge on them and that may start to hurt after a while, but I will hold judgements until I get to hold one. That said I will not buy a Wii U without getting to play one for a couple of hours to try it out.

Don't think so. I expected Natal to be hardcore, it became crappy Kinect.

I think the only real concern for me to have is

Would developers try to use the controller features the wrong way instead of focusing on just making good games. Just look at the PS-Vita which has perfectly capable controls and the impressive processing hardware to give PS3 like games in a hand-held system.

However, so far developers just can't resist ruining some part of otherwise good game by injecting in forced controls that don't work. In other cases they spent time and effort on alternative controls that are not desirable to use over traditional methods.

The Wii had the same problem but not as much the developers fault as the standard Wii remote + nunchuk just didn't have the right layout for traditional controls. Only games designed for it had a chance of playing well while ports from PS2, PS3, X360 game designs would have alternative motion controls that generally sucked.

Touch controls work great... for games specifically designed for it (Plants vs. Zombies, Angry Birds, etc)
Motion controls work great... for games specifically designed for it (Wii Sports, Sports Champions, Kinect Sports, Skyward Sword, Red Steel 2, etc)
Traditional dual-analog with lots of buttons controls work exceptionally well... for most game designs popular today
