A Sony MS merger would definitely make me happy. By the power combined vs Nintendo? I could see some massive damage.

wont happen, it will be easier to let sony drowned in its debt while selling parts of itself off, then MS simply headhunt the talent/buy the IP or divisions it wants, no point in buying the whole cow when all you need is a drink... also in this case the cow looks a bit sickly

I think the hyperbole in this thread is getting just a tad thick. Sony isn't going to be dead, and buried in a decade. This isn't a fly by night outfit we are talking about here. This is a large multinational corporation that is heavily diversified. When a entity gets this big it dies slow. The inertia alone should see this being a viable company even twenty years from now. Even if it is a much smaller player due to attrition.

This drop in stock price isn't a reflection of whether, or not Sony is going to survive. This is a market correction, and it simply means that investors are recognizing that Sony is no longer a top tier electronics company anymore, and doesn't have a reasonable chance of reversing those fortunes. The investors have just accepted the reality of the situation as opposed to buying into optimistic assurances from management. It isn't so much that Sony will never be profitable again, but it will probably never enjoy the massive profits that were gleamed from electronics.

Now whether Sony is a electronics company in ten years time is another story. I can totally see Sony as being one of those rare exceptions of a company that jumps industries. With their diversification it is easy to see them being pushed out of one market only to focus themselves into a new market. Maybe in twenty years time when you see Sony you may be thinking of a clothing line, insurance, or construction. Paradigm shifts do happen. A company that starts out doing one thing a hundred years later is doing something entirely different.

Of course, I dont help by buying only "preowned" Sony consoles and software, Sorry the Nintendo fanboy in me does not allow me to buy "new" games other than for a Nintendo console. :D

That has negative effects on the gaming industry, not just Sony.

How so? I still buy all Nintendo games new and most of the time on release date, I just buy preowned games for my PS3 and sometimes for my 360, so I dont see how Nintendo will be affected by my decision.

The markets have been closed for the weekend. But this much negative feedback about sony will deepen its stocks even more so.

Yay!!!

You do make a good point about how a company can change its market. Even Nintendo did this. Many companies did this.

But the big problem sony has now, is it's management and since those would instrumental to such a change skepticism isn't unwarrented. If Sony is gonna pull themselves out of this negative spiral, they will need the kind of management they had in the 80's and 90's: bold and refreshing.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Unless all you do is buy first-party games for the PS3 and 360, then you're restricting the flow of money to third parties, who also release games on Nintendo systems. Generally speaking, the more money being spent on products in an industry the more investment goes in.

Buy buying only pre-owned you're really just directing your money into supporting the retail industry, rather than developers.

That's not to say people shouldn't buy pre-owned, hell games can be much cheaper and accessible at pre-owned prices.

MS "buying" Sony would be awful, all they would do is gut the Playstation brand/legacy and erase it from the market to allow the XBox brand to have full sway over the "hardcore" market. You're beyond naive if you think they'd have any need for the Playstation if they ever got control of it, it'd always be the red headed adopted child, the XBox would be the "real" child.  They'd maybe keep the Uncharted and Gran Turismo brands until they showed declining sales, but every other Sony franchise would likely be thrown under the rug. Look what they've done to Rare.

They'd also likely just bail on the Japanese industry period.

The Microsoft-Nokia "partnership" is going horribly by the way. Nokia is in big trouble.

Sony + Nintendo (with perhaps a little bit of Google in there) would make a lot more sense, neither company is big enough to bully/buy out the other, they'd be forced to collaborate as equals and whereas MS/Sony have nothing but overlap in targeting the same exact audiences, Sony + Nintendo actually are the perfect ying/yang to each other (ie: Mario brings in one audience, Uncharted another, Zelda brings in one audience, Gran Turismo another). Now that Kaz Hirai is president of Sony (a game guy) he can talk shop directly with Mr. Iwata as they're both Japanese video game veterans.

They'd also consolidate the Japanese development community as a whole under one banner (see: Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, which Nintendo seems to have cut Sony off from, and MGS and Final Fantasy on the Sony side).

you assume MS would want the gaming assets, where i see the movie music and PC assets as the main reason to own sony, spin off the entertainment division or sell it off peice mill. the bigger problem and the reason they will not be taken over is debt, its easier to wait for them to have to sell themselves bit by bit to service it

What most people dont realize is inflation.

The number 30 years ago was worth a lot more then it is now.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Great contribution.

Lol at all the hyper sensitive souls that feel the need to downplay and deflect.  Nothing constructive to say?

Hahaha. Is funny how you lol at the "hyper sensitive souls" when the hyper sensitive answer was yours. Relax a little.
