Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is getting serious about online!

*sigh*

Apropos of nothing, I have a headache all of a sudden. No idea why I'm bringing it up here.

If all you're asking for is how that would be possible on a technical level, a half second of thinking about it says "download codes," which is how you get games from Club Nintendo, are going to get them from retail, how I assume reviewers get them ahead of time, blablabla.

But of course, that's not why you're asking, so go ahead and make your point. All I ask if that you afterwards think about whether words have an actual meaning and, if so, what "confirmed" means.

So the eShop on PC will use "download codes"?     Here's some actual quotes from Nintendo.

"At the beginning, you will not be able to directly purchase software from your PC or smartphone. Instead, you will need to take a photo of a QR code at the Nintendo eShop by using the camera of your Nintendo 3DS."

"The Nintendo 3DS will then open that specific page of the Nintendo eShop. That function is already included in the upcoming system update for the Nintendo 3DS.

"In the future, we will make it so that you will be able to purchase software by using your PC or smartphone."

So they'll go from QR Codes on the 3DS to download codes on the Wii U despite implementing a multiuser account system for the console?   Then the purpose of having a multiuser account system would be....?  What?

Congratulations Holmes, you've cracked the case. Unfortunately, some of us are not as bright as you, and prefer to have something actually be confirmed before we go ahead and call it such. Call us sticklers, call us fools, the result's the same for us simpletons.

Ahhh... a youngin.

I don't see what that has to do with anything.

It has to do with everything.

man this sounds sooo good! I just hope it'll be as good as it sounds :D

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I think we need to redefine precisely what we're talking about. The soundness of Viper's argument depends on exactly what he means, because i can see how he would be right, or wrong.

If we say "downloads will be tied to the hardware they are purchased on, regardless of the Nintendo Network account," then we can comfortably say this won't be the case.

Don't worry Viper, I'm with you. Just because someone can't draw out the formula of gravitational force doesn't mean they're wrong when they say the apple will fall to the ground after they throw it. :P

I think we're all really looking towards E3 for more information! Perhaps we should start taking bets, as it seems people are pretty strongly opinionated about certain topics. =)

Any improvment is always welcome but I'm concerned that nintendo hasn't come up with a clear monitezation strategy. Adding content and features costs money and while companies are always quick to talk about more features they always end up lacking because they dont have the monetary support behind them. I'd feel better if nintendo announced a subscription service so I would know the features being added are supported properly.

I suspect their monetary support comes from the fact they will charge parity with retail games.  That extra profit margin (no retailer margin, no manufacturing, no shipping, no warehousing, no packaging, no instruction booklet, etc...) will go toward the funding of their service.

Hmm... Seems to me like VGChartz will be heavily inaccurate (especially at launch weeks) now that the digital sales will be this widespread.

Yes. I think games are tracked already very inaccurate, the hardware seems OK. But with digital distribution the game-sales here may become very unreliable.

Nintendo comes to online and does some thing never before done and gets ahead.

For real? Who does 100% digital distribution?

This means that WiiU does not sucks at least in the online feature, that's clearly already done and tested.
