Great article.

I remember little games being distributed for free by radio. Certain radio channels would broadcast simple games which you could record to a audio cassette and load on a computer.

My first online game was flight simulator 4 in 1989 by dial up modem. Music just started to become popular on pc's in the form of modules. My first 'sound card' was homemade and connected to the printer port.

Downloading demos, full games (illegal though), faqs, cheats, cracks etc was in full swing long before the internet through the bbs system. Waiting for half an hour for a line to open up to connect to your favourite bbs and be greeted by colorful ansi graphics. Good times.

I used to think I knew everything. I even knew of many innovations that took place before "we think it started with...". I now realize that I knew nothing. Nothing.

Haha, I knew that was an article by cracked while reading it, before paying attention to the link.

Anyhow, I'm now disillusioned of our "cool" technology; after feeling so much superior than people in the 80s, it turns out they already had it. Sigh...

yes actually many do, many also believe nintendo brought analogue sticks to gaming first, touchscreens etc 

articles like this just go to show how little we actually know about the history of gaming and even technology in a general sense


Nope most people think Nintendo innovated technology not invented. They however do help create the market however for others to "borrow" into their products. Like Ipod gets credited for digital music player, it is was innovator, and the product that made the market, but it has small history before hand. 

(I know certain fans do act like Nintendo invented everything, but in general their accomplishments shouldn't be taken away like specific fanbase tries to take away from them)

I had one of those 3d things!!!!! I forgot all about that pile crap. I thought it was cool when I had it though. I think it broke and I threw it away. That little guy could guzzle some batteries though.

Shouldn't this thread read simply "6 gaming innovations...." without the "new". I mean YOU put NEW in the thread title and then called what you just called "new" older than "we" think...lol

But you just said yourself their new lol
