I remember little games being distributed for free by radio. Certain radio channels would broadcast simple games which you could record to a audio cassette and load on a computer.

My first online game was flight simulator 4 in 1989 by dial up modem. Music just started to become popular on pc's in the form of modules. My first 'sound card' was homemade and connected to the printer port.

Downloading demos, full games (illegal though), faqs, cheats, cracks etc was in full swing long before the internet through the bbs system. Waiting for half an hour for a line to open up to connect to your favourite bbs and be greeted by colorful ansi graphics. Good times.
