Forums - Sales - Has the Wii become one of the biggest disappointments in gaming?

The Wii is not a disappointment, it has several great titles that are exclusive to it.

Whats disappointing is motion controls.

Technically ? as a fanboy i would say yes, as a 30 years old gamers? yes! i even buy 360 (already broke) and then i buy PS3.

But, i really love the wii mote, this controller just change almost the whole thing in this generation, Wii just bring a new market here. i can see my nephew (10 years old) really enjoy play Wii more than PS3 (of course, you guys could say Wii is for a child) but it doesnt matter.

I really have a big expectation from Wii U. maybe i will buy it in the very fist day.

Wii? disappointments? In a Sales Discussion thread?
Simple answer: no.

PS3 is one of the biggest disappointments in gaming.

Just compare with Wii.

Too expensive; third place; no first-party games sells well; multiplatform games look/sells better on 360.

Nintendo really let me down this gen with the wii. (Luckily this was not the case with the ds. The ds was/is the greatest handheld of all time)
They had me so excited for the virtual console. The sad part is, that for the first few years, it actually had amazing titles being released. Then...it fell off a cliff.
They had me so excited for wiiware titles. The sad part is, it was actually interesting the first few months with interesting new titles being released. Then...it fell off a cliff.
It took them FOREVER to release an update that allowed me to play all my titles off an sd card.
They had me excited for the balance board. They didn't even really bother with this.
They had me excited about wiimotion plus. No real support there despite them eventually bundling it heavily.
They had me so excited about new games but starting late 2008, I remember having 0 interest in their announced titles. Outside of excitebots(which was not worth the 40 dollars I spent but wasn't exactly a bad game)
the only title I bought that entire year was NSMB Wii.
The saddest part about the wii though was the way they treated me. Every year, they would release a small handful of games over an extended period that interested me so that I could never pull myself away completely from them. Every time I pushed away, they showed me a game that got me excited and hopeful that their situation would change, but it never did.
Also, 3rd party support sucked big time.

From my personal viewpoint, no.  My wife and I get enjoyment out of our two systems almost every day.  Just picked up Xenoblade, so I know there are at least 50 more hours of enjoyment coming my way just from that game.

Sure, there are plenty of people that have a wii and it's a back burner system for them, but I think that on the whole...there really isn't much to be dissapointed about.  The slowdown in game releases and also in sales comes with a just in time release of a new console to keep things fresh.  works for me.

Heck no. It has too many great games for it to be considered a disappointment. Also, 95 million consoles sold is hardly a disappointment in my eyes.

Yes, it was a "disappointment." And no I'm not saying this just to please you. The Wii did great in sales and the Wii did great in games. Nintendo supported the Wii enough. (Just like they do with practically all their consoles.) And 3rd part support was quite good. Most of those games were shovel-ware though, I admit to that. But! The ones that aren't are quite well received and are great fun. So what if they didn't sell as much as the first party titles did/do? They are there, that's what matters. It's not up to the developers or Nintendo to sell a game. It's all about the consumer. If the consumer doesn't look for games than they won't sell. There is the downfall of the Wii. All most all of it's owners are your described old people and little, little kids. They don't look for games! All they see are the games that look "fun" or have commercials or have Wii in the title. The Wii was a good console, it had games and it had the sales, it just didn't have the staying power.

I didn't say the Wiis userbase consist of old people and little kids, I just stated that it opened the market more to the older and younger kids, a somewhat untapped market, which is great.

But you did. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because you're right. It is great to see more people getting into the Gaming Industry, just that these people don't pay attention to game releases other than Wii _____ or Mario _____. When you said that it brought them into the marekt you were right, most of them are either older people or younger children.

I own all three, and only really the microsoft console felt like a disappointment after the first two years (of me owning it) for myself.

One cannot be disappointed at something that creates nothung worth expecting for.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
