Brazil is a classic, still love it although the soundtrack could have used some more attention in the blu-ray release. It sounds like a 50's movie. It's one of those movie that sticks in the back of your mind.

Clerks was on tv and I can't really get into it anymore. Loved it when I first saw it in university, I guess I'm a couple chapters further in my life now.

I also finished TNG rerun, was fun watching the whole series again. space HD seamlessly started at episode 1 again, fun to see the contrast between the last and first episode, quite a difference.

im pretty sure if I watched it 10-15 years ago it would have been one of my favorites but after watching countless other movies this comes as no surprise and i love being surprised.

Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

I watched the rest of Clerks last night. The writing is still good, although a bit crude. The acting isn't really acting, yet for a budget of 27k it's pretty amazing what Kevin Smith put together.

I got Gravity and Blue is the warmest color in the mail today. Kinda surprised to see Gravity is only 91 minutes. I'll watch it tonight, still don't know much more about it than some people spinning in space.

I watched Gravity and half of the behind the scenes footage (it's longer then the movie, will watch the rest later)
It looks amazing, awesome visuals and cinematography. Definitely worth watching again for that.

However as a movie I found it pretty weak. First of all for all the beautiful details a lot didn't make sense. The more he tries to make it look authentic, the more all the inaccuracies stand out. More damning is, he has this huge budget, the coolest film techniques and best cgi artists in the world and all he could come up with is: Here's an eva with Hubble and the space shuttle, now watch it get torn apart. Here is the ISS in glorious accurate detail, (from the outside not so accurate on the inside) now watch that get destroyed as well. Let's go to the Chinese space station as it gets torn apart in the upper atmosphere. Not much of a story at all, just an impossible combination of unlikely events.

I could list a whole bunch of things but the internet has already done it for me ofcourse: http://www.vulture.com/2013/10/astronaut-fact-checks-gravity.html
The inertia felt off to me as well, 600 pounds of character plus space suit being flopped around didn't feel like it had the right mass. Same with the Soyuz jerking at the ISS.

It did get me to check NASA HD channel after the movie, and happened on a tour of the real ISS by Sunita Williams. What are the odds, very big actually, repeated every half hour or so at night. Very cool to watch in HD. One more thing missing in the movie, digital camera sensor damage due to cosmic radiation. space film grain!

All the complaints aside, it was pure eye candy. Cinematography 9/10, story 3/10. At least there was no giant squid at the end. And props to the scene that pays homage to both Barbarella and 2001, from zero g undressing straight to the fetal position shot.

the tai chi master on blu ray one of my favorites kung fu movies its a pitty the audio is buggy for some reason and you can see the wires in some scenes..

Gravity is probably still making money? It's still running here for full price.

I watched the rest of the extras, almost 3 hours total. Awesome technological achievements, although also a lot of sucking up to the director/actors and patting themselves on the back as usual. Fun to watch how they created all the scenes with complex robotic puppeteer systems, robotic cameras and LED light cage. So much work just to get the lighting on the actor's faces to match the rendered material. It's only their faces that are real in any of the outdoor scenes.

The creation of the sound effects was very interesting too, as well as the music track with mostly glass instruments and slowed down human voices. It would have been nice if they had put the extras on a separate disk though. Demonstrating the purity of the sounds and how they move around the sound field synchronized to the camera movements doesn't work with a lossy stereo track.

Some decisions were a bit strange. He shot the final landing scene at Lake Powell in 65mm to make a reference to planet of the apes. Then decided he wanted her to arrive in a green living world instead of a desert, so the whole background was painted over.
They used a database of 120,000 stars to painstakingly recreate the actual night sky at each point in time, then decided it was too empty and simply replicated the set a bunch of times to fill it out, kinda defeating the initial purpose.
Also funny to see the actual path plotted out on the globe she would have taken. Zig zag pattern criss crossing the earth to get the best looking backgrounds at sunrise/sunset.

And it was fun watching it again with all the knowledge of what went on behind the scenes. Awesome tech demo.

^ I still have to wait till the 25th for Wolf of wall street, pre-ordered.

I guess 2010 is for you, the rest for the kids hehe.
First time I saw 2010 was on vhs too, kinda hides the fact that it wasn't such a high quality production as 2001. One of my blu-ray upgrades that were a bit underwhelming. Still a great movie.

Ellen was funny at the Oscars. I timed it right starting 90 minutes behind, caught up with recording before the end. A lot easier to watch with fast forward at your disposal :)

Gravity cleaned up at the Oscars. It got all the awards for looks and sound: visual effects, cinematography, film editting, sound mixing, sound editting, original score, and directing. Every time Gravity won again my wife commented how dumb that movie looks lol. She doesn't want to watch it with me.

I only miss predicted directing (apart from the shorts and documentaries I never head of) I expected 12 years a slave to get that. It got best adapted screenplay, supporting actress and most importantly best picture. I'm looking forward to watching it, together with Her (best original screenplay) and Wolf of Wall street (no oscar).

And booh, Frozen over Wind rises. I haven't seen either but Miyazaki over Disney any day :)

The Oscars where pretty good but last years where funnier.  John Travolta totally butchered Indina Mezel's name I think Ordinary Love should have won for best song but pretty much anytime a Disney song gets nominated it wins.
