Gravity is probably still making money? It's still running here for full price.

I watched the rest of the extras, almost 3 hours total. Awesome technological achievements, although also a lot of sucking up to the director/actors and patting themselves on the back as usual. Fun to watch how they created all the scenes with complex robotic puppeteer systems, robotic cameras and LED light cage. So much work just to get the lighting on the actor's faces to match the rendered material. It's only their faces that are real in any of the outdoor scenes.

The creation of the sound effects was very interesting too, as well as the music track with mostly glass instruments and slowed down human voices. It would have been nice if they had put the extras on a separate disk though. Demonstrating the purity of the sounds and how they move around the sound field synchronized to the camera movements doesn't work with a lossy stereo track.

Some decisions were a bit strange. He shot the final landing scene at Lake Powell in 65mm to make a reference to planet of the apes. Then decided he wanted her to arrive in a green living world instead of a desert, so the whole background was painted over.
They used a database of 120,000 stars to painstakingly recreate the actual night sky at each point in time, then decided it was too empty and simply replicated the set a bunch of times to fill it out, kinda defeating the initial purpose.
Also funny to see the actual path plotted out on the globe she would have taken. Zig zag pattern criss crossing the earth to get the best looking backgrounds at sunrise/sunset.

And it was fun watching it again with all the knowledge of what went on behind the scenes. Awesome tech demo.
