If GameSpy were a print publication I would yell, "Stop the presses!" Why? A new top story has emerged that's sure to get your PC gaming juices flowing: it appears a new Baldur's Gate game is on the way.

Eurogamer directs us to a Baldur's Gate teaser website that popped up yesterday featuring a face only an old-school RPG gamer could love:


A simple hoax? Not according to Gamebanshee, which claims Beamdog, a studio co-founded by BioWare and Baldur's Gate veteran Trent Oster, is behind the site and indeed developing a Baldur's Gate game. Whether it's an HD remake of the original, an all new installment in the franchise, or a mobile port remains to be seen.

And it appears GameBanshee is right. On the Beamdog forums, a poster asks about the teaser site, its link to the studio, and whether or not a new Baldur's Gate is on the way. Oster himself replied with this message early this morning: "We're up to something "

The teaser website's source code provides a few more cryptic clues:
Shadowy Figure - Raise Dead : Infinity Engine.

For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.

And then... it returned. Better than it was before.

Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all.
