How about this--I made my youtube account ages ago. Maybe a year ago, I got a Droid smart phone and the lady at the Verizon store made me a Google account. Later on down the line, I was given the option to link my email accounts and my phone.

Long story, short: I couldn't even update my phone apps or access the Android Market because, no matter which profile I used, the phone would tell me it was wrong. I even changed both passwords to the same word and it still wouldn't work. I eventually copied all of my contacts (using a back up service that costs me money each month) and reset my phone. That was some bullshit!

You can control what gmail account it connects to by using different browser. That way, you get tracked accordingly.

That's a good idea but I don't see why I have to do that.

Because it was broken. Google had their login system scattered across a dozen platforms. I had different logins for Adsense, Analytics, YouTube, Gmail, blah blah blah. It was a nightmare. At some point, they had to (painfully) migrate everyone to a "Google Account" (the new name for one login). That way they could integrate Picasa, G+, and their other social systems into their already existing systems.

This has been happening for nearly two years. You're only noticing it now but they began this process by integrating their business-related systems quite some time ago.

Just send them a VERY strongly worded email, that's what i do when youtube piss me off and they are always very apologetic and sort out my problems. P.S. include lots of made up personal sob stories in you email!!! (ive said many things to youtube in my time that im not proud of!!!) and your problem will be sorted in no time

I hate how Google is linking Gmail and Youtube... I have several Gmail accounts (two for personal use and one because of where I study), I don't want to log out of my Youtube account just to log into my other email accounts. The multi-login thing (or whatever is actually is) also seemed more complicated than it should.

I had hassle with it too. It was telling me to link my phone number too, I had to look for the TINY little link that said "skip", if it wasn't there I would have sued them.

But yeah, Youtube and Google can fuck off, no way should we have to jump through hoops like that just to log into a Youtube account.
