Forums - Nintendo - Is there any genre's that WiiU cannot dominate?

So I can think of only a single genre where Nintendo can't dominate next generation. That genre is Dance games because while the motion controls Wiimotes can give gamers a great dance game they just aren't capable of giving a superior experience to Kinect. But I started thinking up until now their have been certain genres that just couldn't be done on different hardware.

Major genre's that couldn't be done on console as well as PC for example were RTS and MMO. DS showed turn based strategy games could be done flawlessly and some lesser known RTS games showed the DS's controls were perfect for controlling RTS games. But the DS hardware wasn't capable of supporting a full blown RTS or MMO like those found on PC. But with WiiU you could use the tablet for all the buttons found in an RTS or MMO. Their is no reason that the tablet wouldn't be capable of giving the exact same kind of controls as found on PC.

Then there is FPS and some still prefer mouse but many others now prefer controller and some Wiimote. The Wiimotes for WiiU should be capable of giving gamers the most precise FPS controls in the industry. Those wanting classic controls will no doubt be able to use a classic controller if not the Wii one a new one for WiiU. those liking the mouse will get a similar experience with the tablet in fact a mouse peripheral sounds like a very likely out come.

The WiiU should be able to handle every genre (except dance) and game just as good as any gaming hardware on the market. Finally genre's like MMO and RTS can be created with the same precision controls as PC and other genre's should be suited perfectly for one of the WiiU's three major control styles.

In fact I am betting new genre's will emerge due to the new control systems in place and/or combination of them. Like using the Wiimote and tablet together as a single control device to give gamers an all new genre. Is their any genre you feel the WiiU will be incapable of offering? Or excelling at?

The console haven't released yet.

Yes. Sony and Microsoft style franchises.

The Apple iGame will dominate everything.

What? It isn't even announced? That doesn't matter.

It will dominate the huge awkward controller genre for sure!

Seriously though we don't even know its capabilities yet, so I would hold off before declaring domination.

Not talking graphics talking controls. We know enough about the tablet and the Wiimote and the classic controller to know the console is capable of dominating control wise.

Why couldn't MMO's and RTS games be as successful on PS3/360/Wii? it wasn't the lack of graphical power it was the controls. Everybody hated pointing with the analog and selecting the buttons...etc...etc.. Microsoft talked about it in great detail when they made HaloWars. Publishers and developers attempted tweaking the controls of RTS/MMO's to try and make them work on consoles but you could never get the feel of the PC games.

But with the tablet that will be possible. We already know enough about the tablet to know it will be able to play MMO and RTS games. Just like the DS is capable. Whether or not developers support it or the graphical power is good enough to port say StarCraft 2 over isn't the issue.

The issue is that the control scheme is an answer and could easily dominate every genre except maybe dance. Graphical power is the only thing that could be an opstical but that doesn't mean that the WiiU couldn't dominate all the genre's regardless. People who are gamers care about controls, story and gameplay. Graphics compliment those aspects but if those aspects are there then Nintendo should be able to dominate.

The simple ones always get me.

Kudos!

Should do well in the casual genres, but it won't out perform the HD twins in core games. Atleast not until Sony and MS put out new consoles.

@Joelcool7 - You make some really good points in regard the MMO and RTS games, and the WiiU's tablet would better serve those genre's. With an improved Classic contoller, it is still pretty ugly, Nintendo would have their bases covered as far as controllers go.

I just hope Nintendo gets the power and graphics on the WiiU right, at least PS3 comparable. If the WiiU, is they may be able to lure the right production studios to develop games for it. I am actually kind of surprised that Nintndo with all their production experience haven't attepted to create a new series to atract the "mature"gamer. If the have I am not aware of it, and believe me I know I could be wrong on that statement.

What a silly post. This console isn't even going to come out for another year or two. It is already (before it even realeases) far outdated.. By the time it hits store shelves the tech will be an Antique. As for what genere it won't dominate... Sports games.. Sony/M$ franchises/FPS/any game that adults or teens take seriously. Gamers don't play Nintendo games to have a serious immersive experience.. They play it to have fun and be silly. This perception will not change, if anything Nintendo will get even more of a "kiddy" repuation due to this silly (and slightly ridiculous) tablet controller and relying on the Wii motes for extra controllers. With hardware that is 4 to 6 years behind the competition not to mention how far behind PC gaming they will be. They are shooting themselves in the foot. Isn't it funny that almost NO ONE, gaming publications such as GameInformer or any other respectable gaming site looks at the WiiU as a next gen console... It will be getting ports from the 360 and PS3 and even those aren't going to release till long after the PS/360 versions of the same game releases. This console is DoA. Point to the success of the NES... I point to the Gamecube.. Poin to the success of the Wii... I put to the WiiU. /thread.
