On the point of post histories being removed - bad

On the new mod team - good

On the old mod team - lololol

Could someone on this forum elaborate what was wrong with the old moderators?

The forums have started to slowly become worse after the change, and some stuff has just been plain dumb (Max-Seece conflict).

People can now get away with many stuff that was deservedly punished when the old team was working, and that is coming from someone that was moderated by most of the old mods

One word - Maxwell

Oh please. At least Maxwell did his job, whether you liked it or not (although it's no surprise you don't) and you wouldn't see the same amount of trolling aand BS when he took care of a thread as you see today. Yeah he was more focused on Nintendo threads, but with good reason.

Quite frankly, threads were more civilized when he was around.

Wow, a moderator who banned trolls. That's a surprise. The fact is, his nose was stuck inside a Nintendo shaped butthole and he couldn't handle someone saying something ill of Nintendo. Add in the well known fact he held grudges against several members... Bad mod.

Considering he was one of the few that did ban trolls, I don't see why you're diminishing it, especially since you don't see that nowadays. He was a Nintendo Fan, no doubt about it, but he was far from being the most biased mod in the lot. He just didn't take any BS when it came to Nintendo. Just like you didn't use to take any BS on Sony related issues and you vehemently expressed it as well.

Also, i'll say this in the most sincere way possible: There are some members in here that deserve grudges against them, for a long long time.

I don't think anyone would disagree if you argued in favour of when Naznatips, Sqrl, MontanaHatchet, BenKenobi, rocketpig and Bodhisattva were in charge of moderation, because they were fantastic and none of us are a patch on them (and it's worth noting that forum activity was lower then and there were more mods, though also more reports). Unfortunately, all but one of them left and the fifth was so traumatised that he refuses to moderate.

The period between then and now, however, when TruthHurts, Maxwell and (a lovely person but not a fantastic moderator) trashleg were in charge of handing out moderation, the site was chaotic and the moderators were a lot more widely despised than they are now.

Its a ballache quoting on a mobile, so Im replying like this.

Just because he banned people, doesn't mean he was a good mod. It means he was doing his job. I wrote news articles for this site. I wasn't very good at it, but I got a lot of hits for the site.

There was a reason he got sacked and didn't get a place on the new mod team.

The problem with banning on intent, is that you can never be 100% sure of the intent in a lot of posts made.

Bias also clouds that decision. Maxwell was the most biased mod we had.

Banning on intent would really only come into play after a user has racked up 500 or more posts. By that time a reputation has been built, so a moderator who kept track of the more active members could judge in 90 % or more cases correctly. Sure, eventually it's bound to hit someone wrongly, but on the bright side it cleans up or prevents a lot of mess.

I know when I see your posts that they are intended to be satirical (and let us not get back into that long-dormant debate about whether or not satire has to be entertaining), but that's because you've been here forever and have posted over 20,000 times. By the time you get to that point, you're clearly NOT a troll (or at least not the bad kind).

To that extent, judging (pardoning) based on intent is fine. Convicting based on intent, on the other hand, is problematic. Generally if somebody has a long list of bans in a short time, they're pretty crappy at stealth trolling anyway.

Trust me, i'm not in any way implying that the moderation with Maxwell, Zexen, Trashleg and TruthHurts was perfect. And I agree wholeheartedly with you, the best times in VGC moderation where when Naz, Sqrl, RocketPig and BenKenobi were in the teams.

I don't believe that a moderator should be judged just because he's despised. People will always look down on a moderator that bans a lot of people, even if all the bans are correct, especially if one camp is causing trouble and gets the blunt of the moderation.

Yes, Maxwell had his faults and yes he could have done things better, but my point is, as I said before, whenever he entered a thread pretty much all the BS and the trolling ceased, and that's why I respect the guy and why I liked his moderation. I have no issues with any of the current moderators, I believe some of them do a good job and some of them don't, but as individuals, I respect them.

But the point is he banned people who deserved to be banned, he did focus more on the Nintendo forums, but that was because no one else really cared about them, now users like (even if in other forums he is a great poster) M.U.G.E.N can bait as much as they want in the Nintendo forums and no one cares or does anything.

And it is not like if he didn't focus on all forums, he kept all the forums clean.

@moreno
He also banned numerous people who didn't deserve it. A lot.

@Rol
Nah. The entire mod team was dropped, and for like a Week the only people capable of moderating were admins. You were banned during the time, if I remember correctly.

A MOD with higher authority should have stepped in and made an exception by now, that bann on mugen caused more bad than good, surprised to find out that he was warned and he did nothing.
You guys must have been bored as shit to go around measuring users sigs and banning them as a result, lmfao, all while in the middle of TGS. Nothing better to do I guess. SMGDH.

When you said old mods, I was thinking of ones like FishyJoe. Those were some dark times if you supported Sony at all. Back in those days, I don't think anyone could argue that Nintendo fans got away with a lot more than Sony fans. I remember how long it took for Gballzack to get a minor ban the first time, and he was just constantly harassing people. FishyJoe borderline baited Sony fans so he had a reason to ban them. From what I remember, he exclusively banned Sony fans. Shams was very anti Sony and pro Nintendo, but it didn't extend into his banning policies.

Now days, I think the moderation staff is much more fair and I like being on these forums much better.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
