And another note... in FFX, you could, literally, walk all the way back to Besaid. If random encounters are a bother, you can create a no-encounter armor provided you have enough purifying salts (which you can get in the arena anyway). You couldn't revisit 90% of the locales in FF XIII AFAIK.
I don't think it's gonna be a "full on new game" type of remake (Who here really thinks this?), more like all the other "HD remakes" with mostly just an upgraded resolution
So one DVD (not even DL) is enough for it.
By the way, most of the space that FFXIII takes up is just high quality HD video/audio, the game itself is actually nowhere near that big
Yes, it will be an HD "remaster". Knowing SE and its obsession for details hopefully it will run at 1080p and 60 fps. That means the textures will take much more space. Also the audio/video should be redone, hopefully at the same quality of FF VII Advent Children. Which compressed takes 6-7GB for 100 minutes. The FMV in FF X all together are much longer. The ending takes something like 40 minutes itself. Plus all the videos before and during the main battle(s). But ok, that could be a DVD alone.
Spira felt much bigger than Gran Pulse. At least much more diversified. Than there is Sid as well. Don't forget that you must add all possible monsters. I really mean ALL of them. They are all needed to build the Arena. The cinematic fights with the Aeons and against the Dark Aeons. Or with the magic (Ultima anyone?). Not just some turtles.
It might take less space than FF XIII. After all it doesn' have a fulll 3D camera. But contrarely to it, FF X can't be easily splitted.
Anyway, I *am* excited. I played it 3 times already, 100% once, but the trophy addition will make it stimulating to play it to the end again!!
FFX, there are 7 stats - strength, magic, magic def, vitality, luck, agility, and evasion, (or 6 - haven't booted up the game myself in a while - evasion may not be there but w/e) creating a nice play field for build up. In XIII, there's predestined allocations of only two - strength+magic. Again, on rails.

Eight, actually. You are missing defense.
You know, that HD remaster or whatever it'll end up to be will come in very useful with me forgetting stuff like this ;)

...But it will also be out for Vita, it will have trophies and it shouldn't be out for a while.
Which means I can complete FFX now and re-play it on the PS3 and Vita next year :P
Xen said: It wasn't open to anything because you couldn't do shit in that game but battle until you're tired of it. And FFX2 was a fine homage to the fans of the first game with a terrific battle system and cute cast. I don't get the beef with it.
Someone sounds a bit mad. I was talking about it being open in the sense that you could actually walk places, which you never could in FFX, no matter where in the game you were.
Behold, the glory that is FFX-2:
The day the series lost all of its respect.
Yep, you could walk places. Forward 99% of the time, the other percent divided between left and right. It was a wannabe-RPG on rails.
Also, you rant on about how the series lost all respect and such and such and cherrypick a (rather funny) minigame to prove it and then you call me angry - it's all very ironic and funny and I think I'll fold here since this isn't going anywhere.
Just like FFX, exactly my point.
I've been ranting? I did not notice, I've been mostly just saying my opinion pretty calmly. I would hardly call a rant something that is two lines. It's not cherry picking, it's a clip showing how shameless the series has become, the series has no self-respect and that mini-game is essentially just a pure concentration of what the series has become.
Win by forfeit, heck yeah!
"I was talking about it being open in the sense that you could actually walk places, which you never could in FFX, no matter where in the game you were."
Win by someone self-defeating his own view of the games?
I was talking about the "It's a wannabe-RPG on rails", sir.
FFX has more than a plenty of elements to qualify as an RPG so... it's moot.
Oh? What is it that makes FFXIII "a wannabe-RPG on rails" while FFX not? The whole game is basically on rails, there are no choices to be taken. Is it the terrible mini-game? Does every RPG need a card-game to get out of the wannabe category? Is it the towns in which you can do nothing but talk to NPCs who say nothing valuable? I thought the thing that made JRPGs qualify as an RPG was the leveling up and the stats building, and as far as I know, both X and XIII has that.
Indeed - both FFX and XIII have stat building, BUT:
In FFX, it's a free reign as to how you want to build them up (provided that you get the key spheres - but they are not needed for much other than great abilities or traverse into other parts of the grid, which can be done without them anyway). In FF XIII, it's how the designers want you to build your stats or not at all. Basically, like the whole game, Press X (or A). In FFX, there are 7 stats - strength, magic, magic def, vitality, luck, agility, and evasion, (or 6 - haven't booted up the game myself in a while - evasion may not be there but w/e) creating a nice play field for build up. In FFX you could modify your grid. In XIII, you can't. You could effectively craft weapons and armor with whatever abilities you wanted. In XIII, all is predestined and almost luck based in the way you get exp (use animal part/some oil, then use electrical conductor and pray). In X, you could take full control of your Aeons and modify all but two (Magus sisters and Yojimbo) with whatever abilties you wanted for them. In XIII, they are both automated and almost useless.
In X, you could do sidequests that (gasp!) didn't involve battling mobs by the request of random stone X on the lifeless bore that was pulse.
I could go on, but...
I'm only going to argue the sphere grid thing, since I have to get started on homework and I have no idea why I'm defending FFXIII when I have a strong dislike towards that game.
The sphere grid was just as bad as the system (forgot the name lol) in FFXIII was. The sphere grid might have given the illusion of choice, but there was basically none. It doesn't open up until way into the game on the standard sphere grid for anyone except for Kimarhi and he sucked in general. For most of the game you were basically just following a line with every character that was already set up by the developers and it didn't open up until you were done with those, which wasn't until the game was basically over for anyone who didn't suck and had to grind for ages. You are stuck in the paths the developers wanted you to, you do not choose, just like in FFXIII. Sure you can skip a thing unlike in FFXIII, but why would you do that when you were forced to go past it anyway? Both of them had branches that you could take if you wanted to before getting back on the regular old pre-set path. The sphere grid was just a fancy and tedious way of doing something that could have been automated and nothing would have been changed, except for less busy-work of course. FFX and FFXIII had just as little choice when it came to leveling up your stats.

1. Try the expert grid. Still predefined to begin with, but much less.
2. The fact that you could modify your grid and jump around in the ending stages moots its equality to XIII and makes it quite convenient and nice. I understand that you didn't like the game, but I've spent around 200 hours in it an I know it through and through.

I thought you didn't like it?
When did I say that?
It's all I have been playing this week.
Maybe I misintrepreted, but you didn't like its linearity... I don't really remember the details.
