Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do developers act like Nintendo fans are obligated to buy their shitty games?

That was a pretty interesting article, but can anyone tell me of any third party dev that actually said that Wii owners are obligated to buy there games??? Anyone?? I hear that a lot but never see any actual quotes from the evil devs. HOD overKill, Tvs.C, Goldeneye, MHTri, Grand Slam Tennis, Red Steel 2. Games right there that are worth the price of admission. Oh, sure the WIi is not overflowing with core gaming goodness like everyone else, you just have to look harder.
And FYI, anyone who actually played RE5 knows that game would not run on WIi without major sacrifices, it would be better if they just make a RE for the Wii instead of trying to get 5 gallons of water into a 20 liter bottle

You aren't British, so "FAIL" indeed.

ok that clears things up much better, and there are products in the US that do use liters. IE Coca Cola, just saying

Well said. Developers tend to see Nintendo as this mythical creature with powers that can magically lure tons of consumers their way, when they don't realize that the reason so many people buy Nintendo games is simply because they make QUALITY games. If they only made games with similar quality and fun gameplay, they might get similar sales. Sadly, this isn't the case, especially when it comes to third party Wii games. The only games that come close in my mind are Just Dance, Guitar Hero, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil 4, and most of these are ports. Little King's Story and Zack and Wiki are pretty close too, but are very obscure and only appeal to a small niche. And on a console that has near 90 million users, this is completely unacceptable. I guess they just figure a console with so many users will guarentee sales even if they crap out shitty games, but over time most devs have learned that it's not that simple.

Because Nintendo fans bought a "cheap" console they think that they don't have to make anything good for it.

or maybe its cheaper because of its specification??

and maybe sometimes hardware power actually matters? maybe sometimes decent memory and a GPU is required to show a killcam?

I dont know though, im not pro. Ive herd a lot of people say hardware doesnt matter, all games should be equal so i guess im in the minority so im wrong.

maybe rockstar are just being douchebags for not making GTAIV and RDR for wii....surely it has enough power.

This is why I don't own a Wii. The last good Nintendo console was N64.

That statement was a very intersting read. The developer just tried to make some games, and failed miserably at them. That's the market telling them to stop, well meanwhile breaking even at least they gained development experience. I wonder how their PSPMini venture continues, or if they will jump to the independent haven that is iOS developing and how that goes...

But they are right on the promotions comment, I want my WW free games to boost sales, since that threshold stops independent game developers.

The problem seems to be just that, Wii owners are expecting games that are on par with those of the HD twins in terms of hardware power. The other thing is that out of the 90 million consoles sold, the majority were bought as a fad for the family or for drunken entertainment, mostly to run quick and easy dance and party games. That's why the needs of the serious gaming minority were never met, no matter how much they deserved it or not. I personally know people who bought the Wii as a spur of the moment thing and have yet to unbox them. You don't buy the more expensive consoles by accident and you don't buy them just  to run party games once every blue moon and that's why developers feel secure to go all out with them.

The only reason that argument works is because third party developers have made it true by refusing to develop serious games and thus making the market believe serious games can't thrive there, when in fact they can, when they're actually made (Monster Hunter is a sight more serious than any of the shooty shooty gun stuff that seems to pass for hardcore these days, and it did rather well for its franchise), but instead they make these incredibly niche games or test games, and use the inevitable failure of such games as an excuse to not make serious games

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Capcom is alright to be fair, but I agree with the rest. They're using the specs of the Wii as an excuse to not make anything good. There were plently of great games last gen- doesn't that prove that you don't need HD for a game to be good?
