Forums - Nintendo - Lots of 3DS games cancelled. A worrisome trend?

Partially coincidental. The Hudson games would have been canned whatever, given that the whole company went down. Megaman Legends 3 was also a longshot, and as for Saints Row and Assassin's Creed, it sounded like those were games that never properly existed in the first place, so i would call it bad luck, the latter two of which were brought on by Nintendo's efforts to promote games that don't really exist yet (but Nintendo's not alone in that. "Agent," anyone?)

It's not at all the same. Agent is real. See:

It's hardly Rockstar's fault everyone expected it to be a game instead of a sig for PS3 fanboys.

If Nintendo releases strong first party titles to drive hardware sales, only their games sell and third party can't compete. If they let the third parties pull the hardware, third parties are scared to publish their games and wait for Nintendo first party games to pull hardware. You can never win.

What is your opinion on the third party launch titles? I think they are reasonably good. I didn't really follow the DS much went it was released, how was that handheld release?

It shows they arent confident in what they created and their ability to get thier game known. Knaw i kid i dont really understand this as we all know the 3ds will eventually sell like crazy.

you say that as if it were a fact as opposed to a prediction...  we don't in fact know that to be true, all you need for evidence is how shitty the ps3 did in the wake of the ps2.  past performance do not guarentee future success.

But this is Nintendo!!!!!

I think it would be more worrisome if the games were being moved to other platforms, and not just cancelled outright...

3DS is in serious need of a pricedrop. No way parents can justify spending double what a regular DS costs just because of the 3D, and "core" gamers and the tech-savvy crowds are just not interested in the device... they're more likely to pick up a smart phone or PSVita when its released in a few months at the same price.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It's not really Nintendo's fault, it seems mostly coincidence.....but could Sony have asked for a better start considering that Vita gets closer and closer to release?

Although it may seem worrisome, I wouldn't worry. True some big name games have been canned, but there will be bigger and better projects in the future. People forget that the 3DS currently has no competition as it is the only platform in the 8th Gen.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Guys, every console has tons of games listed before they launch, complete with screenshots. Some of them are very promising (ie: "The Lost" for PS2). Sometimes, they get cancelled. I don't like it. You don't like it. It happens. It's not the end of the world.

It was all fun and games when people preached doom and gloom for the PS3 because, at the time, I wasn't in love with the system. Now, it's happening to my beloved 3DS. I don't like it.

Most of the games it has are rehashes (yeah they get little tweaks of new content but mostly rehashes).  Look at some of the 'big' name games it has.

That's my biggest problem with the 3DS: most, if not, all of the games I'm interested in are just remakes or ports.

Devil Survivor Overclocked - available on the DS and the sequel is coming out for the DS as well.
MGS3 - the HD collection killed any interest I had with this.
LoZ OoT - Lots of places to play it.

Nothing screams must buy, and it looks like it'll stay that way for a long while.

Most third party games tend to suck on Nintendo consoles so who cares anyways?
