Not exactly. first the development cost will be go up higher (and nintendo will pull out support, which means no more free marketing dollars), and Dragon Quest has proven time and time again, it can do well on one platform. (I also assume Nintendo has a contract for the game, which most likely can't be easily broken).

The smart move would be some how convince Nintendo to put in on the 3DS and potientially cancel the wii version (assuming resources aren't wasted from the transfering), however that would be hard since it is pretty much confirmed for Wii and I assume transfering would not be as easy as it sounds.

Dragon Quest XI needs to be either Vita or 3DS. They should give up on Home Consoles Dragon Quest games.

I'm sure they can do well on the wii alone but it can do much better as multi, especially given how well ps3 is doing in Japan and ww these days (can't wait to see how well Xillia will do) the thing is tho, IF they are gonna put the effort to put it on WiiU, they might as well go Multi, can't make that huge of a difference. I don't think scrapping wii version would do good either. How easy it is to port from wii to 3ds? I know ps3 psv is supposed to be very easy for devs.

but I agree I think they must have some contract for the game with Ninty. Next game should be psv/3ds like you said

I doubt it.  Enix's position has always been "We make our biggest games for the console that has sold the most."

If they did moneyhat them.   They didn't have to.

They likely shared the stage with DQ because DQ is the biggest name in gaming in Japan.

As for it staying on the wii?  What else could they do with it?  It no doubt has already gone through a lot of development, They're going to restart graphical modeling over from scratch?  I don't think so... hell, you'd be better off just starting on DQ11 to release like... a year after DQ10.

Well, that's assuming the guys at Enix have a very simplistic view of the console market.  And, as others have said, surely they would've given the platform more support in its early years if that were the case.

Personally, I think a simultaneous WU/PS3/360 release would be best at this point.  I can't imagine the figures DQX will do given the current state of the Wii, let alone the state of the Wii a year or more from now.

The Wii has only managed to move 2.5 million units of software so far this year in Japan.  Total.  That number will be significantly lower next year, so for DQX to pull decent figures for a Dragon Quest title, it'd have to outsell every other Wii release for the first half of the year combined and then some.

It's not assuming anything.

That's actually more or less a direct quote.

As for more support...  How many games have Enix made lately?

Outside of Dragon Quest 9 on DS, and Dragonquest swords on Wii?

It's often forgotten but Square and Enix still operate seperatly... and Enix never really made a ton of games.

Despite being more valuable and in general a better company then Square mostly Enix is/was a lisensing house in it's videogame division... with the few IPS they do control being mostly DQ, and basically always for the market leader.  Enix supported Wii and DS like crazy.  It was the square side that missed out.

As for it being a mistake... don't be surprised if it's not.  Dragon Quest could be released on Gameboy Advance and it'd do 3 Million in japan and probably spike Gameboy Advance sales to outsell the 3DS.  And Japan is where it's going to sell... since DQ sells like crap everywhere else.

When it releases, the Wii will STILL have more consoles sold in Japan then the PS3, by a few million... and it will move systems.

With 3DS being so poor, there really wasn't a better move.  Multiplat would be a waste of money... and in truth I can't think of a single Enix ordered multi-plat game ever.  They've had a few liscesed multiplats but that's it.

SE needs to release DQX on the PS3, any other console will be another mistake like the many they have made this gen on choosing a platform.

I'm just gonna ignore this game until it actually has a release date :P
maybe in about 3-5 years time or maybe on next Nintendo home console after Wii U the Wii U Mii

Right here. WIth this update from the link:

Update 22:25 -- It seems that my previous headline made people think that Square Enix is considering a Wii U release for the game. What Wada is saying is that Square Enix is looking into support for the Wii U. Rather than a Wii U release to accompany the Wii version, this could just mean some sort of Wii U enhancement. Of course, we don't know yet if Wii game discs can be programmed with Wii U enhancements, so we'll have to wait for further clarification. In the meanwhile, I've added the word "Support" to the headline.

Thread title needs to be edited.

I was thinking something like this before, since they said they were "currently doing technical investigations on how to support Wii U", something like a DLC that makes a menu/map/etc appear on the controller while playing the Wii game. Guess we'll find out if it's true or not in a year or so

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

i think dragon quest 10 will end up being a launch title for the wii u and it receive a graphical update as well. i think the wii will get a bare bone version just to appease the wii fans.
