I guess Square Enix simply sucks at developing games at a fast speed.

It's just them spreading resources too thin. They have way too many projects in the pipeline, nothing gets done in a timely fashion.

And yet they keep supporting the 'HD trend' of higher development costs, more expensive games, bigger experiences and so on. LOGIC!

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Wada responded that Square Enix must consider making the game compatible with both the Wii and its successor, the Wii U. The company is currently doing technical investigations on how to support Wii U, said Wada.

The Wii U is 99% compatible with the Wii. You'd only release it on the Wii U if you take can advantage of the console features.

The Wii U's hardware has much more in common with a 360 than a Wii. Multi-core Power CPU and post-R600 AMD graphics vs single core older Power and fixed-function graphics.

I fail to understand the Quote. The Wii U is 99% backwards compatible with Wii software (games like DDR that used GC ports are not). If the game is already made for the Wii, release it, since new Wii U users can still play it with the same controllers. I even think there might be a possibility of Wii games with similar controls to the U controller could have an added bonus of working TV-less with it.

If they are thinking on Wii U, make a new multiplatform DQXI.

I'm saying the port will take as much effort as a Wii -> 360 port.

That would really make little sense. Given practically full backwards compatibility, there's no reason people couldn't buy it for the Wii U anyway

Unless Nintendo's nudging Square Enix in that direction, knowing that the platform that basically launches with a mainline Dragon Quest game is going to set a trend of positive momentum in Japan that'll be very hard for any competitor to crack...

So let me guess release for Wii-U then port to PS3/X360 knowing SE latest ideas.

I wouldnt put my money there if I were you, that would be horii's decision rather than SE... And after all the work that nintendo is been doing for DQ in america and europe, I think it would be dumb from him to go multiplat... The dev cost will skyrocket and nintendo would obviously quit any support to the series in the west... I think it would be smart for him to position DQ as a nintendo brand, as SE did with FF after FFVI and sony...

Hehe they positioned it so well that XIII and XIII-2 have x360 releases ;)

I don't know if it would do DQX any good, but Wii U will become one of the best selling home consoles ever in Japan if it has a mainline DQ as a launch title.

They better start developing games for the iPhone and the iPad then, who are poised to be bigger and cheaper markets than even the 3DS and the Vita will ever manage to be. It's not like the next console of your favorite company will be another Gamecube, you know.

Also, calling it simple logic to go that way makes things far simpler than they actually are. Console gaming will still be a availiable market, no matter the situation of handhelds and other ways of entertainment. It brings me to mind the recent discovery that the filling of ecological niches may have much more to do with evolution and diversity than simply the survival of the fittest. In essence, it's the same thing.

Enix made a mistake by announcing DQX too early. They should be releasing it for PSP.

There's nothing wrong with the simplistic view of just releasing your big game for the biggest system late in its life. That's what Enix does, they just made the mistake of doing that for a Nintendo system one too many times.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

All right, to go along with your biological analogy I'll say that a publisher that takes 5 years or more to release its major games is about as adaptable as a an animal who breeds every other generation

Very wise move, it will not only help the sales of the game but will make Wii U dominance guaranteed in Japan. And will add hope of a PS3 port.

Why ia everone expecting a PS3 port? It's being published by Nintendo, I believe.

And even if it isn't, why would they allow Sony to get their biggest release for the Wii in Japan EVER slip away now? They wouldn't.

The same thing happened with DQIX on DS. You can hope, doesn't make it any more likely...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
