I don't think Square-Enix really wanted to release it on the Wii anyway. You would think that if a publisher was developing what is almost certainly their most high profile home console exclusive of the 7th gen, they would release some other games for the platform before. All that S-E has done for the Wii is a chocobo game, crystal bearers and DQ Swords (which was developed by Nintendo anyway). S-E were really hesitant to jump on the VC bandwagon as well, they didn't do so until 2008.

I don't want to start the whole 'where will KH3 go?' shitstorm, but there is no doubt in my mind that the Wii should've got a KH game. S-E could've easily taken advantage of the Wii, but they just decided to do nothing bar DQX, which is now even looking shaky. Seriously WTF S-E?

Given their track record I'd say releasing DQX on Wii is more like the strange exception than the rule... Maybe Nintendo money-hatted them.

The story with Monster Hunter doesn't look a whole lot better, really. Instead of one on rails spinoff Capcom gave us two. Both had their strange experimental games on the platform (Crystal Bearers and Zack & Wiki), both had a few other minor releases and weird ports (the DS FFCC game that came to Wii, that arcade Dragon Quest port, the Dead Rising port etc.)

A very peculiar console generation indeed.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

I think the wisest decision would be to put it on PS3. Seems these sorts of games do best on PS3

Yuppers.

The Wii is like the stepson you didn't want but kept him around anyways to do chores around the house.

More like the billionaire geek stepson you just can't bring yourself to suck up to even a little, even though you know you should

Man if they do port this thing to WiiU it better not look like a Wii game. In that case Square will have to rebuild the game from the ground up which will mean more delays and more money. You never know maybe after 14-years in development the game will finally come out and everyone will be pissed that it feels like a 2011 game lol!

Much like Samurai Warriors 3, weren't both Monster Hunter 3 and Dragon Quest X announced at Nintendo conferences or with Nintendo executives in attendance?  It's very rare for Nintendo to share the stage with a third party, so I can only assume moneyhats were involved.

To be honest, it's the only reason I can imagine both the game being announced for Wii when every other major JRPG was hitting ps3, and the game staying on Wii now that the console is well past its prime.

Not really surprising, the 3DS would be another option considering how well IX sold

Meh, when I think of Square-Enix console games anymore, I always think " hey that might be a good game to play when it is released in 5 years." Regardless of whether or not it comes out for the Wii U, you can count on the game taking forever to release. Look at the FinalFantasy games this generation; Versus was announced in 2006 and it still doesn't have a release date.....

Wada responded that Square Enix must consider making the game compatible with both the Wii and its successor, the Wii U. The company is currently doing technical investigations on how to support Wii U, said Wada.

The Wii U is 99% compatible with the Wii. You'd only release it on the Wii U if you take can advantage of the console features.

The Wii U's hardware has much more in common with a 360 than a Wii. Multi-core Power CPU and post-R600 AMD graphics vs single core older Power and fixed-function graphics.
