PS2's were locked by DVD movies not games, i don't remember PS1 though, but i can't play my US FFVIII on my UK PS3.

Games were definitely region locked on PS2 and 1.
I think it's awesome that Sony stopped that shit and made their console region free for games. This way I can get games that might not be released in my region. That's a pretty big plus in my book.

If it is SD cards and Games are $40, it would be a full house for sony.
If the UK prices stay the same, it will be just under £40 cheaper to import the console from USA.

Yes you are correct. Altrough all laser mods were removing region lock.

I don't get why Sony doesn't just accept that 85% of the marketplace standard.....seriously is that remaining piece of pie really that worth it. It would be if HDDVDs still tried to compete again Blu-ray to this day.
