Guess Project Cafe's launch price

$250 10 3.98%

$300 85 33.86%

$350 84 33.47%

$400 52 20.72%

$450 9 3.59%

$599 11 4.38%

Total:251

I'm putting my money on $350.

Even though it will not cost more than $185 to make, Nintendo saw what happened with the Wii last time where it was sold out for a while.

Plus, $350 gives them room for at least 4 strategic price cuts. It is expensive enough to distance itself from last-gen hardware (PS3/360) and by being the first to market,  has nothing comparable to it, which doesnt make the price seem as bad.

Not really, he's probably pretty close because €/£ prices always include VAT unlike $ prices (usually with quite generous rounding up as well). The £ used to be a lot stronger than the € but now it's just a little stronger so it could be something like £ 270-280.

Based on my speculation thread (see sig), I'm thinking a launch price of $350 to max of $400. However, they won't announce that price yet; its too early. They will disclose its full feature set, a bunch of playable games, and of course some future things. But price, exact launch titles, and specific launch dates will be left out.

300 USD = 208 Euros = 183 GBP.  VAT certainly doesn't make up that difference.

Add 20% VAT to 208 € and you get 249 € (it's more than 20% in some countries). The rest is the "rounding" I talked about, which is why the Wii launched at $250 / 250 € for example. Same with the PS3, $600 / 600 €. People are used to it.

Right now the Wii seems to cost $150 and 140 €, so the situation didn't change much since then...

its going to have to be at least $350. Given that the 3DS is $250, I can imagine that the Cafe will be at least $100 more.

I think the same (so does the mayority), though it's hopeful thinking.
We still don't know what Cafe is, you could add 50 more for launch price, meaning 350-400.

I say $349.99 (voted $350.00) and the price will not be confirmed at E3

Even with all those reasons there's still a good chance I'm wrong, because jumping from $250 to $350 is quite a lot.

I agree with the rest of your reasoning, but remember that this rationale did nothing to stop the 3DS from selling for $250 (more in Japan).

Personally, I'm hoping for no more than $300, but I expect it to be more unless they're still scared by the 3DS' performance come time to set the price. And that time won't be until three or four months before launch.

$299 obviously as PS360 will cost $249 or maybe only $199 by the time Café is out.

They can't be competitive if they sell it for more than $299.

And the price will be unknown until early 2012. Only a few months before launch they will reveal it.
