"just repeating the same plot point over and over again"
Yet people still complain they don't understand the story and don't know the difference between Fal'Cie and L'Cie. As you said, it forces the same plot point over and over, how can you NOT understand it?
Anyway...The cutscenes weren't boring. You just need to learn to appreciate dialogue and character interactions, rather than craving more plot points, cutscenes were a nice breather which suited the linear style of the game. I would have at least thought the graphics could have kept your attention, it worked for me =D.
And melodrama isn't anything new to the JRPG genre...it really isn't anything new AT ALL.
The Blu-Ray disc can be upped to that capacity, but it requires a firmware update and I don't think SONY have used it yet.

i'm not sure how people didnt understand the story - because nothing really happened. we just went from A to B and we only reasons we were given were "its our focus". i think perhaps because the fal'cie, l'cie are never explained. or people just didnt like the story - probabily both.
i fell the dialogue and character interactions were unrealistic and unbelieable. its like the developers think this is how young people talk to each other. i can embed comparasion videos, but we all know what the dialogue in FF13 is like:
"well lady luck sure anit on his side" - Fang, "you say you want your day of wrath do ya, well its coming right up" - Hope, and probabily the worst, "hold on baby your heros on the way" - Snow. the dialogue was delievered like it was a Saturday morning cartoon show for kids.
the characters never used to be so unrealistic when Sakaguchi ran the show. this is why the only character who was universally praised was Shaz.
anyway i'm not starting an argument, but this is why i think 6 hours of cutscenes is more than enough. instead they should think about refining that cutscene experience, like good games, such as Dragon Quest 8, FF12, Assassin's Creed, or even Valkyria Chronicles do wth more natural character interactions and personality traits that flow inexorabily from each other - rather than bizzare outbursts and monologues imo.
