1.) I know, I wanted more cutscenes myself aswell, especially in the ending scenes etc, there wasn't enough explaining.

2.) I heard a rumour that you could stick on another layer or two, maybe I was wrong. I also heard from many relaible tech websites that there was a 400gb Blu-Ray disc compatible with the PS3, but that was just PR bullshit.

Skyrim is different though, it might have a large world but it doesn't have a huge soundtrack, tonnes of cutscenes (both in-game and pre-rendered), plus I think most of the game data such as textures are re-used. I don't know though, I am not a developer. Big JRPG's seem to like lots of space, so I will leave them to it.

This is exactly what i'm talking about, i think 4 hours of cutscenes is more than enough to flesh out the story, characters and world mythology.

FF13's cutscenes are boring because they're not interesting - just repeating the same plot point over and over again: "its our focus Serah said so".

and we know this is because of problems during development - and imo very poor levels of script writing.

for example, why can Assassin's Creed introduce dozens of characters and loads of interesting plot developments in a shorter space of time - where as FF13 can only develop 6 characters and develop very little mythology about the world in 6 hours - more time -

the game has spent years in development and the key plot development after 5 years of production is "its our focus Serah said so". it didnt help that a lot of the cutscenes featured emotional breakdowns - some people have even gone as far as to compare FF13s drama as that of a soap opera. i neither agree or disagree with this!!

and i think blu ray has been uped to 33gb per disk - meaning 66gb on dual layer, so i think this is enough for this and next gen even!

"just repeating the same plot point over and over again"

Yet people still complain they don't understand the story and don't know the difference between Fal'Cie and L'Cie. As you said, it forces the same plot point over and over, how can you NOT understand it?

Anyway...The cutscenes weren't boring. You just need to learn to appreciate dialogue and character interactions, rather than craving more plot points, cutscenes were a nice breather which suited the linear style of the game. I would have at least thought the graphics could have kept your attention, it worked for me =D.

And melodrama isn't anything new to the JRPG genre...it really isn't anything new AT ALL.

The Blu-Ray disc can be upped to that capacity, but it requires a firmware update and I don't think SONY have used it yet.
