Forums - Nintendo - The Wii should have had a flood of PS2 ports, but of the great ones.

I still expect a DQVIII port somewhen before DQX, in a similar fashion to MHG before MH3

When I first got my Wii, I expected way more original IPs or sequels rather than Ports. In fact I didn't think there would be such need for ports from PS2 or Gamecube that much at all. This was back in 2008 when I didn't have knowlegde on how the VG industry worked or had any knowledge of the VG Industry. All I ever did was just play games. So no I didn't expect PS2 ports at all.

And lol at someone who said Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid Ports for Wii...

Until I see Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games on a Microsoft or Sony console, I have to vehemently, vehemently disagree that the Wii should get the Sony defining 3rd party titles from the PS1 and PS2 eras.

Without the 3rd party support, Sony would not be where it is at today. Henceforth, 3rd party titles for Sony during the PS1 and PS2 eras = 1st party Nintendo games. In terms of impact for the long standing success and survival for the console.

So, hellz noes if the 3rd party games were Sony or Xbox exclusives! If you give something you sure as hell better get something in return.

Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Final Fantasy 7-10, and GTA 3-San Andreas were all Sony console exclusives. A few of these were released for the PC, but the PC doesn't count as much as Nintendo in this debate because it has been dead ever since the World of Warcraft strangled everything else and left the PC as a home for console ports and the occasional great PC exclusives such as The Witcher and Starcraft 2.

As for multiplats, I could care less and wouldn't even notice.

I haven't seen that many ps2 ports on 360 either...

That has nothing to do with the OP. If you read it, you would know why.

"While I do think the consumer base is partially responsible for third party shying away (not every game Wii players got are bad)"

That would only be valid if good games never had weak sales on other systems, and that is not the case on any system.

I read your post. You make it sound like there should be MGS, GTA and FF ports on wii. Ports of those games would have had nice sales on HD-consoles too.

Then you say that those companies are no brainers for making those ports (on wii).

When you have limited information like we have the only conclusion is that there are very good reasons why they aren't released  on the Wii or publishers didn't do X or Y in relation to various side topics in this thread like the quality of their releases or the quantity of their new I.P. core releases etc, which we don't know about.

What will be will be, talking isn't going to put 10 AAA Wii exclusives out there from some of the industries top 30 developers.

I just cannot understand when people say that third parties killed the wii, I mean when the good AAA games come along they DON'T SELL. There are many many examples:

1- No More Heroes 1 & 2

2- MadWorld

3- Red Steel 2

4- Prince of Persia (heard the wii version was really good)

5- Conduit

6- Many Multiplatform titles that simply do not sell on the Wii and sell on the HD consoles.

Then there are also additional ports such as the Resident Evil archives games adapted to the Wii-mote which didn't even chart in this site.

Nintendo games sell very well on the Nintendo platform, no doubt. Mainly because Nintendo software usually means quality and people are just used to that.

I think it is a smart business decision from developers/publishers to stop supporting the Wii with those types of games, because if they do not get a return on their investment, why should they care? To please fanboys?

So in the end, to me the blame is on the customers who don't pay for AAA games on the Wii and that have forced the devs/publishers to make those tough decisions of stopping support for the platform all along.

Im sorry but those games are not AAA games. OF all my years playing games, they don't stack up to games i've played 10 years ago. No more heroes lasted for a good time and my bro finished it almost 10 times. I heard Resident evil Archives had issues; so how is this AAA again?

Maybe those are "good games" only according to the internet guys and actually they're bad games no one cares? I don't know how people keep putting Madworld as a good game, I just don't see it.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Considering the little effort it would take, it is indeed surprising.  The Wii shouldn't have to rely on old games though.  The Wii just received the shittiest support for a first place console I've ever seen.  Don't use Okami in a list of great Wii games, use games that were actually made to be Wii games.  The Nintendo games alone make it a pretty good list.

1. If porting from PS2 to Wii was piece of cake wouldn't those games already been released at gamecube ?

2. being port of old game doesn't suddenly make advertising any cheaper

3. there might be some law reasons (at least for exlusive ps2 titles)

All I ever wanted was a GTA: San Andreas port to the Wii with some higher resolution textures. I would have stood in line to buy that shit at midnight...but Rockstar didn't want my 50 dollars...

Take Two doesn't want your dirty, Nintendo-supporting money. Unless you're willing to buy Carnival Games, they can do without your kind

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
