Forums - Sony - PS4 is still getting games in 2026

Tagged games:

More than 12 years after its release, Sony's last gen console still has a few notable games on the way this year; Mouse PI for Hire, Mina the Hollower, Ariana and the Eldar Codex, Bubsy 4D...

It has a 2027 release scheduled in Mega Man Dual Override.

That's the equivalent of say a PS1 game releasing in 2008, or the PS3 getting a mainstream release in 2020.

Anybody here still use their PS4, or have you all retired it by now?

I'm still buying games for the PS4 both indies and physical to this day lol.

PS4 is a great system, but I haven’t booted it up in a while. After investing in a PS5 and a 4K TV, I put the old girl in retirement. I think the last PS4 game I purchased was Elden Ring, since I didn’t have a PS5 at the time.

I gifted mine to a friend, he's still playing as far as I know

Well, with a digital store it is a lot easier to release a few titles per year for and older platform than for old consoles with only physical games.

But the PS1 also got a few games in 2008 and the years after that:

I retired mine after Sekiro in 2019. Great console.

Makes sense, lots of ps4 owners out there and games scale easily enough. I still will be shocked if there are ps6 exclusives, I think everything will be cross generation moving forward, much like PC where the vast majority of games still work with 1070+ GPUs.

I still play quit a lot on my ps4 since my ps5 is digital.
I recently played sengoku basara 4 amd DQ11S definite edition on it
Also a LOT of brotato.

Ps4 in my books is the best modern console ever.

I went from the base model to the Pro and retired it when I made the jump to PS5, which must have been somewhere in 2021.
The PS4 era felt like Sony's exclusive production was firing on all cylinders, good times compared to now.
But don't blame my boy PS5, it's not his fault that the games aren't there. He would be glad to run them with all his glory.

My PS4 Pro is a spare console hooked up in my bedroom that I use every so often.
Digital distribution is one of the main reasons it's still getting games. PS3 even had some stragglers from 2017-2020. The crazy thing though is I think it's possible in 2027 that we get a physical PS4 game that isn't Limited Run. Still not a given. This might be the last year games that aren't a Limited Run or some similar distributors get a physical PS4 release.
PS4 hardware was probably discontinued globally in 2024, but no word from Sony yet other than that all PS4 hardware stopped in Japan on March 28 2024 and the last stragglers of shipments are selling there.
