Forums - Sony Discussion - When will the PS4 be discontinued?

PlayStation 4's primary competitor, Xbox One, was discontinued right around the time Xbox Series S/X launched. However, we didn't get that confirmation until January 2022.

It is abundantly clear that PS4 is very much in its twilight. First-party releases have all but stopped, and hardware sales are only about a few thousand a week.

When do you think PS4 will be discontinued? For reference...

PS1 was discontinued 23 March 2006.

PS2 was discontinued 4 January 2013.

PS3 was discontinued in EU/AU March 2016, NA October 2016, and Japan 29 May 2017.

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

in my opinion it has already been discontinued since the middle of last year. shortly after sony failed to reveal sales of the console. now sales are leftovers

After it was reported that Sony was making more PS4s than initially planned (the report is from January 2022), Sony denied they were ramping up production.
So, I suppose it's 50/50 right now that Sony already discontinued the PS4 between April 2022 and March 2023 (their most recent fiscal year).
If Sony hasn't discontinued the PS4 yet, I think it's all but guaranteed to happen in the first half of 2024 or before. Chip shortages of the past 3 years and the PS5 playing 99.9% or so of PS4 games make it illogical to give the platform 11+years of availability.

I’d be happy if they just kept supporting it forever! Not sure I will buy anymore consoles… just don’t have the time for games anymore and the new games just don’t seem super appealing. Like I used to be a big final fantasy fan, but new final fantasy games are incredibly unappealing to me. So yeah, keep the ps4 train going forever I say!

In terms of when PS4 sales will fully stop that can't be far off now. Maybe the first half of 2024 will have little scraps left but that has to be it.

I could have sworn there was a report of the PS4 discontinued like a year ago or so.

Anyways, cant find it anywhere in any store where I live (online or locally).

This christmas will be the last one with new PS4 still around.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
