Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda U - Wii remote or Wii U Gamepad?

Tagged games:

I'd rather they built the next Zelda to be played with...

A Wii Remote Plus 44 17.74%

The Wii U Gamepad 142 57.26%

Wii U Pro Controller. Don... 62 25.00%

Total:248

Any Legend of Zelda fan knows how each iteration takes a handful of new/unexplored concepts (sailing, merging with walls, motion plus controls, shrinking to Liliputian size, masks, etc) and mixes it in with traditional Zelda gameplay. Skyward Sword really explored deeply what could be done in an action adventure game with the Wii remote plus. ait wasn't just an afterthought. Personally, I loved it so much, I don't want to go back to using my sword with button presses. I hope the Zelda on Wii U uses motion plus, but what do you guys think? Would you prefer them to maximize the features of the gamepad? (I prefer they do that with new IPs).

If they used the gamepad, at least I'd still be able to aim my projectile weapons with the gryo controls, even though the Wii remote is my favorite way to aim anything in any game. To those who think combat is very limited when motion controls are used because we can't move our hands as fast as the super speed of fictional characters, and because we can't map as many combos to motion as we can to buttons, I say Red Steel 2 proved that combining motion with buttons can give a wide range of attacks.

I would use Gamepad or Pro Controller.

I want them to use the gamepad cause motion controls is what I hated the most about skyward sword cause, apart from the whole, I dont really want to move my arms so much sorta deal, the accuracy became the problem for me. Like, at times, specially with the bombs, it would be soo inaccurate that it lead to frustration! Granted like most of the time, it was fairly accurate but few times where it became inaccurate killed the immersion for me

Wow. You replied faster than I could put the poll up. Did you beat Skyward Sword? Did you dislike the controls? (Let's focus on controls and not story, levels or enemies now)

It will use the Gamepad.

But Nintendo could put motion controls anyway, for Skyward fans, it wouldn't hurt anyone.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I loved the MotionPlus gameplay in Skyward Sword and would really like to see it come back for Zelda Wii U, as unlikely as that is. Still, I can't vote for Wii Remote Plus on the poll because I don't actually want them to build the game around it again.

They're already building the game around choice of approach.....like even more freedom than A Link Between Worlds had. Are you saying you'd prefer Motion Plus gameplay as long as the game is actually built around something else, and the M+ is just the icing on the cake?

Motion control was fun and all... but in the end it was way to demanding...
I could at most play 1-2 hours at the time before my arms started to hurt.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Haha. .

But no I have not pkayed SS. Actually, just 2 Zeldas since last year. WII U one will be third.

It's obviously going to use the game pad.

Watch them implement a camera and a bow system with it. There's already a bow section in Nintendo Land that works great, it's also been implemented in WW HD, so with the focus on the bow in the only preview we've seen, I wouldn't be surprised if targeting weak points with the game pad isn't a thing.

If nothing else, it makes inventory management and map browsing so much more convenient that it'd be a crime not to use the game pad.
