Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation may win many battles, But Windows will win the war.

Technological improvements are greatly slowing down, in 20 years time the improvements will be far less than they were 20 years ago.
Eg take the earliest and the latest fastest common Intel processor of the i7 line.
Core i7-975 Extreme Edition released June 2009 6199 passmark CPU score
Core i7-7700K released January 2017 12196 passmark CPU score

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_microprocessors

Core i7-975 Extreme Edition released June 2009 list price $999
Core i7-7700K released January 2017 list price $350

You are comparing totally different price categories, the high-end i7-7xx0 CPUs aren't released yet! Why don't you compare the i7-975 E.E. to an i7-6900X or an i7-6950X of May 2016?

Yes, development has slowed down (which happens to all matured products) and Intel shifted its focus to energy efficiency and integrated graphics... but it ain't as bad as you try to tell us.

PlayStation will probably lose "the war", but it's not Microsoft that is going to win. Probably Google or Facebook or some other big company will release a viable Windows alternative and we all will jump on that. I doubt it's going to be Microsoft though, they are completely out of touch with consumer markets and make way too much money on business customers to care anyway. It's the same with Bing or Windows Mobile, they don't have anymore the long term vision you need to dominate outside of business related markets. I also think they're going to be even more successful with focusing only on their core competencies.

As a whole, I doubt it. Google has no interest in heavy OS and FB has no plans period. Apple tried and they fell short even with the popularity of Apple products...

Winning PC...is not really of any consequence to Sony. This is why Microsoft tried to work with Sony. They wanted to be synonymous with the best selling platform company with multimedia. If they couldnt they would try to take them out. Fail. All the money in the world cannot replace talent and drive. That and Microsoft isnt the best at anything in the gaming realm outside of console online. Steam owns Xbox.

PS4 is winning the battle? I don't think PS4 has outsold Windows 10. So it is losing the Battle and the War.

So many xbox and windows 10 gamer but nearly every game is selling better on playstation :( why don't they buy more games?

PC is a Digital gaming zone. WoW Legions shows 390k games sold.. i can guess there are probably more gamers playing WoW Legion than the best selling PS4/XB1 game sold.

Dare i go on.

You probably should dare to go on because that's certainly not true. Blackops 3 sold over 15 million on PS4. WoW's Peak Subscribers at any time is 12 million.

It's no secret that consoles are a bigger market for AAA games, we have the data to support it. PC Games has higher revenue in total due to FTP MMO's and Social Network Games.

Well, 95.75% of Steam gaming happens on Windows, even with an upwards trend. Windows 10 is already on half of the Steam PCs, which enhances the probability that more and more of these Steam gamers also buy some games from the Windows marketplace (they won't leave their Steam games behind, but add the Windows store to their buying options). Some Xbox360 gamers who switched to PC instead of Xbox One might even prefer the Windows marketplace, because they keep their achievement progress and friend lists.

I'm sure Microsoft ain't too unhappy with the current situation.

Enhances the probability from almost zero, to marginally above almost zero. A bit extreme I'm sure when it comes to exclusives they will. But regardless Steam makes the money in PC gaming, not Microsoft.

Assassins Creed, GTA, Battlefield, The Sims, CoD, Civilization. Microsoft doesn't see a penny from sales of these games on PC. Meanwhile Sony recieves around $7 for every $60 game sold sold on PS4 and Microsoft the same on Xbox One.

Windows 10 is far from the ideal gaming enviroment for Microsoft yet, it's a Steam monopoly.

Of course windows is the most popular OS but when Microsoft couldve been saving PC gaming at its lowest point in the early 2000's, Steam took over. Helps when you are the default OS coming out of the box for the majority of the market. Steam is just too established for competition between Steam and Microsoft to be fair when it comes to the majority of the games circulating.  Steam is the prominent gaming central point on PC.  Microsoft is not percieved to be the best on any platform in the PC realm nor the console realm and yet are still struggling to figure out whether they want console supremacy or PC supremacy.

Both Steam and Windows saved PC gaming. Windows helped Steam because Apple wasnt going to make Steam what it is today i can promise you. As for being the market leader, they all ready are for PC since Windows is the main gaming platform for PC gamers. Steam is just one of many gaming apps for Windows. Win Store is an option not something trying to destroy Steam. Gamers want options and it adds alittle competition to keep Steam on its toes.

For some reason gamers think a company has to be a the market leader in sales to be successful or to profit.

Steam is synonymous with gaming on PC, MS doesn't see a dime for any game sold through that. You know it's bad when someone starts comparing a closed piece of hardware to an open piece of software that was handed out for free the first 6 months of its life.

Do go on how ps4 is at war with Windows 10 though. It's incredible we can even have this discussion to be honest, never thought I'd see the day
