Well, 95.75% of Steam gaming happens on Windows, even with an upwards trend. Windows 10 is already on half of the Steam PCs, which enhances the probability that more and more of these Steam gamers also buy some games from the Windows marketplace (they won't leave their Steam games behind, but add the Windows store to their buying options). Some Xbox360 gamers who switched to PC instead of Xbox One might even prefer the Windows marketplace, because they keep their achievement progress and friend lists.

I'm sure Microsoft ain't too unhappy with the current situation.

Of course windows is the most popular OS but when Microsoft couldve been saving PC gaming at its lowest point in the early 2000's, Steam took over. Helps when you are the default OS coming out of the box for the majority of the market. Steam is just too established for competition between Steam and Microsoft to be fair when it comes to the majority of the games circulating.  Steam is the prominent gaming central point on PC.  Microsoft is not percieved to be the best on any platform in the PC realm nor the console realm and yet are still struggling to figure out whether they want console supremacy or PC supremacy.

Both Steam and Windows saved PC gaming. Windows helped Steam because Apple wasnt going to make Steam what it is today i can promise you. As for being the market leader, they all ready are for PC since Windows is the main gaming platform for PC gamers. Steam is just one of many gaming apps for Windows. Win Store is an option not something trying to destroy Steam. Gamers want options and it adds alittle competition to keep Steam on its toes.

For some reason gamers think a company has to be a the market leader in sales to be successful or to profit.
