If you bothered to read the financial report itself you wouldn't have to keep on repeating a years old myth. No it's not just games doing great. They've at least 1 more division making more money, Home Entertainment doing good and Mobile not losing money anymore. The unfortunate earth quake in Japan caused them to lose money in semiconductors but otherwise it's another strong division.

Chill out!

The link says I have to subscribe and not sure where to find finacial report.

The only thing I've read is link below which suggests the only reason Sony is doing good is because of PS4.

That's about $400M profit. For anyone wondering how that compares to Nintendo: they also posted a figure close to $400M, but it was in the red.

Is that flamebait...?

Anyway, idiotic comparison, firstly net loss is 235m, thats not close to 400m... Eh? Secondly, you compared sony's operating profit with Nintendo's net loss instead of operating loss which was 49m$... Well done!

Didnt know, the Telegraph said they posted 39Bn yen loss, thats where I got the info.

3.5 million PS4 sold in Q1 2016. This is compared to 3.0M in Q1 2015.

This really puts things into perspective considering PS4 is down YoY in the US for the quarter by 80k. That just means Europe and Asia are considerably picking up the slack by at least 80k+ 500k compared to last year.

PS4 is doing well in emerging markets like India, I live here and I can tell you that PS4 has a much better image now over the past year becasue its library has strengthened siginficantly and games on PS4 have become cheaper.

Uncharted 4 has helped it a lot though, its selling crazy well and that too at a very high price point, I think it may already be close to Uncharted 3's LTD sales here based on online retailer's number of reviews for it, and Uncharted 3 sold a lot better than Uncharted 2 here outside of bundles.

They could do a lot better though, as a PS4 500GB system still costs $500 here without any game and PS4 games are double or triple the price of PC games, for the same game.

Great shipment numbers, up 16.67% YoY. If they keep going like that they'll exceed expectations by 650k for the entire FY.

Back At the start of the year, i expected 2.5m For PS4 first quarter of year and 3.5m the second.

Then it did a bit worse than expect ( first quarter ~2.3m ) and in general it did worse than i expect in USA during the Second quarter.

So after that i was expect PS4 to be flat, if not a bit down YOY this time ( ~3m ).

In the end my original 3.5m was more correct btw. Very nice results.

Wonder How is sell trought. It was 40 million by the Third week of May, a week after Uncharted 4.

I think it's likely 40.7/40.8 million by end of June.

What smoking hot news... like it

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Really surprised that sales are up. Very impressive numbers, and bodes extremely well for the rest of the year, with Neo and PSVR sure to boost sales significantly.

Still some way to go for the company, but they have come along way from the beginning of this gen, when some were predicting (and some were hoping) that Sony may even go out of business and would have to sell off the PS division.

Selling batteries? That makes me sad. Sony coin batteries are almost iconic.

They made the first consumer lithium-ion batteries. Nowadays, that's what powers almost every piece of portable tech on the planet.

Great number!!! Completely deserved!!! <3

So from that report the Game and Network Services raked in 44 billion Yen while the company on a whole brought in 56 billion Yen (44 biilion Yen gaming and 12 billion Yen for rest of company). While the G&NS is up 25 billion Yen more from Q1 a year ago, Sony on a whole is  down 41 billion Yen.

Maybe kowenicki or ZhugeEX can apply a bit of context to it.
