Where it matters? For Who?

Well, they all divide the countries into different segments depending on the size of the market. That is only natural. Dicontinuing all together is another matter.

For Microsoft of course

Which should be equal to if it matters for the customers. 45000 in sales is still 45000 in sales, and MS, just as Sony or Nintendo, must rely on as many markets as possible to gain marketshare.

What if the cost of launching and advertising the x1 is 10 times the profit gained. Keeping their Japan xbox staff emloyed from this point on will probably cost more than their profits too

You know Xbox Portugal exists.. here xbox sells less than 200 per week.

Xbox actually sells less than 200 a week in Portugal?  Wtf

Small country, even in this sony land, ps4 sold 45k in 1 year time.. 12 months. We are poor and not many lol

wii u sales there(probably same as xbox one maybe lower?)

Wii U not long ago was being sold for 160€... the zombie U bundles lol It sold terribly.

XBO at least sold out easily on the inicial ones, actually it sold quite well. Only out since September tho! 200 units was the 360 lately. XBO will be doing about the same after the holidays I suppose.

All time WiiU is probably above XBO, but we are talking about 2 years more worth of sales.. but its probably close already.

No, they have a deep pocket, they can keep x1 in japan... MS can't just withdraw from japan, there are tons of developers in japan! PS4 already have a good numbers of exclusives coming from japan, if X1 withdraw now this number will grow even more and is sure to make a impact in global sales. ( they need to keep their presence in japan, even if they can't get exclusives they can, at least, get some multiplataform games, if they leave these games are going to be Ps4 exclusives.)

A PR nightmare, demostrating that X1 can't fight PS4 in japan, and lots of devellopers choosing to go Ps4 exclusive ( instend of going multi plat.) this is why X1 can't leave JP.

a lot of devs are already making games for ps3/psvita/ps4 only. the sales for these games they could get will be tiny.

It would be smart of them to do so, but I don't think they will

Then they have two choices as I see it:

- Downsize and treat Japan as they treat other smaller markets, no country specific titles unless here are indie initiatives.

- Charge forward and produce alot, and by that I mean ALOT, of Japan centric games to actually make a pressence in that country.

What MS has done is the worst path forward: having huge staff compared to other equal markets, yet releasing next to no Japan centric games.

The main problem MS is a case of perception: they are viewed as a company that only prioritize markets like the US+UK and some of the larger EU countries in mainland europe. To actually grow and be a future contender as a market leader, they need to change that. This means losing money in alot of smaller markets initially but gaining a perception of a company that makes their consoles available to all fans aroun the world.

I love the Xbox brand but Sony and Nintendo are far better at making fans feel prioritized around the world.

good post. they did ok with the xbox, then the 360 made some real inroads mainly in the first half of it's life but after the first half it has all been down hill. they just forgot about japan and now they're back to square 1. It will be very costly to get back to square 2 and the other option is oblivion or relative oblivion.

Nope. Then again, I also said they wouldn't drop Kinect.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Doubt it.

No. They're working with 5pb on exclusives/ timed exclusives. I'm sure they'll try to buy out some other japanese games aswell and just hope for the best.
