Did you win with a five star rating often? I micromanaged every battle, they were over much quicker and much more fun. |
Majority of the time, yes.

One thing for sure, Tabata is terrible at PR. He somehow managed to turn TGS hype into doubt in a single day. Really bad advertising. |
Almost sure hes a former microsoft employee. :p

That.... sounds horrible! |
I disagree, but why?
Why and how is repeatedly pressing a button is superior? You can do that btw the combat would still work fine.
Also, don't forget about the other rich elements of the combat. The advantage of warping around and getting the best of tbe environment , controllable AI, mgaic and its statistical depth.
They only thing that I really want is to be able to choose which weapon to use.

I called first: this game will be a piece of... very bad software.

"KH has almost no automation like they've described with this game recently. Lately SE has this mentality where FF games have to play themselves for you to some extent.
Also I don't know how KH3 will turn, but the command deck KH's especially aren't one button input games. You have the dedicated attack button, dedicated command deck button, the jump button, guard button, shotlock and reality shift buttons, link attacks in DDD... KH games are well involved, and for those who've complained about KH2 being too easy (hope you weren't playing it on Normal), there's KH 2.5 Remix with Critical Mode and a lvl 1 option coming out soon." |
I only jumped and mashed attack. I never once guarded in any KH game ever.
I have no idea what shotlock, reality shift, and link attacks are.

XV. Attack button, defensive stand button, warping button, jumping button. The rest of buttons is used to navigate the menu for the following purposes: controlling a party member, summons, and maybe additional skills.
People are jumping the shark a little too much about how good this actually is. Also based on the TGS 2014 and E3 2013 trailers/demos it's clearly obvious that you can switch between characters. Like someone else said, Tabata is not good at PR.
Edit: Bad I mean :P I mean it's not good or bad it more or less just IS right now.
TBF the Japanese definition of casual is probably a good thing. Although it's important to look at the specifics of the game mechanics in 15. FF7-10 can easily be considered the most casual FF games but they're the most liked string of FF games by both hardcore and casual fans.
That being said it, it's a very good idea to be able to just hold down certain button instead of rapidly pressing them. You'll have to release them sooner or later anyways to not get hit or if you want to end the battle faster use a more effective attack/combo/magic/summon etc.
It's also important to keep in mind that you probably can't dodge ALL attacks like area attacks or maybe even magic attacks. Plus if you're the only one dodging, your party members are getting damaged over time and you will probably need them in order to finish some battles for combo uses.
