Imo, it was the last good Final Fantasy.Later, Square started going down the crappy path.

I have a (very) small hope FFXV can revive the series for me.

I don't think FFXV will revive the franchise, but   it is probably going to be a good game.

That´d be good enough for me.I don´t like the online only Final Fantasies, and I didn´t find FFXII very enjoyable, FFXIII is shit, so if FFXV manages to be better than those two games, that´s...something, considering the state of SquareEnix nowadays.

Yeah. Nowadays,  most of the good Square Enix published  games are  made either by Eidos or Crystal Dynamics.. Hopefully that changes  this gen. Not saying Eidos and CD are bad, but I simply want SE to put some effort into their own damn games as well.. Hope I am not asking for too much..

To be honest with you, I really hate the state so many Japanese developers have found themselves in since the 7th generation started. From the NES to the PS2, the vast majority of my collection was from those guys. When the 7th generation started, so many started becoming crappy developers compared to what they once were, I don´t know what the fuck happened (actually, maybe it´s got something to do with what I wrote below)

Nowadays, the only Japanese developers I care about are Nintendo, Platinum and From Software.

I guess the migration of Western PC developers to consoles, the CoD 'epidemic', among other things, really did a number on many of them.

I really loved it. It's the Last main series Final Fantasy I played and beat (besides Final Fantasy Tactics).

I agree. Look at Capcom, Konami, Namco, Square Enix, Sega...... They used to be the  best.  Now, most of them are simply irrelevant..

Worse than VI-IX better than XII-XIII (didn't play a FF since but am still looking forward to XV)

What I don't understand is why X never (to my knowledge) got the same flag for it's linear gameplay as XIII did, in my opibion it was just as bad.

Been over it before and explained why I dislike it. Start of the rot that is plaguing Final Fantasy to this day. Linearity, bad and cliched story/acting. Bad characters. Bad battle system.

The only good quality is Uematsu, who wasnt even on form.

Some people mentioned FFXIII. I liked XIII okay but it really dropped the ball in every area except graphics, gameplay (I loved the battle system), and music for me. Story and feeling of exploration were abysmal. I bought XIII-2 and it was confusing but it wasn't bad. I think I got to the third area you travel to and put it down. Always meant to give it another try. I even bought all of the DLC for it!

I'll probably be first in line for XIII-3 despite not being in love with the first or finishing the second, though.

One of my fav FF game of all time.

There is a reason why it was called " Final Hallway XIII"... At least XV will be open world... Too bad that game  won't come out  until 2015 or even later..

I think it's pretty good. Most of it's flaws wouldn't be considered flaws back in 2000, when the game was being developed.

Perhaps Tidus and Wakka definitely weren't very likeable characters, but yeah, that's it.

As for the scenarions being too linear, I guess the developing team wished to play it safe with the new hardware, and the focus all along was on mirrorring the story themes of the last "serious" FF, which was FFVIII.

I liked the soundtrack.
