Sure, the WiiU is at the moment a failure in the area of sales. That doesn't change the fact that I love the system, but looking at the sales I have to say it is a failure in that area. That doesn't mean it is a failure in others and it doesn't mean it can't recover in sales.

It's the same as the Vita, that thing is a great machine but a failure in sales. so far. similar situation.

NO. The games haven't come out for it yet, end of story. Let's check the sales in January. If they're still bad, even then we'd STILL be better off waiting until after Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. release before you could ever definitively call Wii U a failure.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Does success and failure always have to be defined in terms of sales/predictions about sales?

The Dreamcast for example, was a sales failure but it will always be a success in my eyes because of the variety of games, the innovation (online, vm units etc) and the overall great experience I had with it. The Dreamcast, imo was trying to give gamers what they should have wanted.

The Wii was a sales sensation, but I tired of the experience in the end and felt a bit let down. Compared to Nintendo's previous efforts it felt like a failure.

If the Wii U's sales figures went through the roof tomorrow, for whatever reason. I wouldn't consider it a success unless it had some sort of drastic change of direction.

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

No, but on a website about sales it likely will be.

I'm playing SS and I enjoy the game with its motion controls. Nintendo brought in a revolution like none other before them (not even Sega), so I'm sad that the lack of sales of SS will lead to the motion controls going away. If it were up to me, Nintendo would offer both, but I'm not sure how architecturally feasible that is. So I do agree with you.

Having said that, when people call the U a failure, it's usually an argument supported by the lack of sales.

It's been a big failure so far. It could turn it around, but I think it's fair to call it a failure for now. However saying that it has no chance to be at least a moderate success is very premature.

PS: It's non of my business but if this site stresses you out this much , just stop coming here. It's unhealthy for you.

To clarify, this thread is fine, because it's about a console which is already out.

OT: I would say that it isn't. It's had a weak first year, but then so did the PS3. There's plenty of time remaining for it to redeem itself.

No, not yet that is. Let's wait after the Holiday seasons

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Just remember the start that the 3DS had. It was terrible.
Reasonable sales on release but quickly dropped off due to lack of compelling software (Sound familiar?)

The Wii U is just going through the same pattern because Nintendo made similar mistakes, though they said they wouldnt.
But with Pikmin 3 now out, and more big releases in the coming months we will start to see the turn around to Wii U becoming yet another iconic Nintendo Console.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

Too early. Even though it's selling badly, it's too early to tell.
