Does success and failure always have to be defined in terms of sales/predictions about sales?

The Dreamcast for example, was a sales failure but it will always be a success in my eyes because of the variety of games, the innovation (online, vm units etc) and the overall great experience I had with it. The Dreamcast, imo was trying to give gamers what they should have wanted.

The Wii was a sales sensation, but I tired of the experience in the end and felt a bit let down. Compared to Nintendo's previous efforts it felt like a failure.

If the Wii U's sales figures went through the roof tomorrow, for whatever reason. I wouldn't consider it a success unless it had some sort of drastic change of direction.

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.
