Does success and failure always have to be defined in terms of sales/predictions about sales?

The Dreamcast for example, was a sales failure but it will always be a success in my eyes because of the variety of games, the innovation (online, vm units etc) and the overall great experience I had with it. The Dreamcast, imo was trying to give gamers what they should have wanted.

The Wii was a sales sensation, but I tired of the experience in the end and felt a bit let down. Compared to Nintendo's previous efforts it felt like a failure.

I'm playing SS and I enjoy the game with its motion controls. Nintendo brought in a revolution like none other before them (not even Sega), so I'm sad that the lack of sales of SS will lead to the motion controls going away. If it were up to me, Nintendo would offer both, but I'm not sure how architecturally feasible that is. So I do agree with you.

Having said that, when people call the U a failure, it's usually an argument supported by the lack of sales.
