Oh, oh, that's pretty hard. Let's see.

#1: Nausicaä: That is practically the essence of Miyazaki-movies. he has all three main themes he makes movies about in this one: War, Flying and the relationship between nature and humans. That said, other great movies have to step behind this: Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited away, Howls Moving castle, Laputa, Kikis delivery service. All of them are great, but Nausicaä for me is the best of them all.
#2: Grave of the Fireflies: Well, this movie gets everyone crying. I never saw one, who wasn't touched by it.
#3: Whisper of the heart: That is such a beautiful movie.

Well, as said before, I can recommend all Miyazaki movies and basically all Ghibli movies. These three I have to choose, if I have to reduce to three.

Surprisingly, your top 3 are the 3 out of the 4 that I have not seen, Poppy Hill being the fourth @___@

Currently downloading Whisper, and I already have Grave but haven't watch it yet. Interested in Nausicaa though...

Heresy! Fast, watch these movies to atone your sins!

Nausicaä actually is not that different from other Miyazaki-movies. As I said, he mostly goes onto the same three motives and he uses all three in Nausicaä. Flying - Nausicaä has all sorts of flying machines, small and big. OK, no flying city like Laputa. And no flying pigs like Porco Rosso. But aside from that, all that flies. War - in a big scale. And nature vs. humans - actually the poisonous mushroom woods look strange and cool at the same time.

No flying pigs?? Man....

But in all seriousness, I just read the basic beginning plot for Nausicaa and it seems very interesting. Will download after Whisper of the heart tomorrow!!!

It seems like many people in this thread like Nausicaa. I've never even heard of it!

It's really not the greatest, If you're on a mission to see them all then by all means, but it's kind of dated and feels like an 80's movie imo.

#1 PRINCESS MONONOKE: my absolute favorite anime movie of all time; I just love everything about the movie(I've literally seen this movie about 20+ times in both English and Japanese)

#2 Spirited Away: was actually the first movie I saw from this studio so it always has a special place in my anime heart

#3 Howl's Moving Castle: just another great movie

this thread makes want to see all their movies!!!

It's a toss up between Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle for me. I've seen Ponyo but didn't really enjoy it after going in with somewhat high hopes for it. Same thing with Arrietty.

Saw parts of Kiki and Princess Mononoke, have to go back and re-watch them sometime. And the rest I never saw.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Unfortunately, the only Studio Ghibli film I've seen is Spirited Away. Though that is my favorited animated film ever so I should probably check out more of their work.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

1. Spirited Away
2. Grave of the Fireflies
3. Princess Mononoke

I just want to add that Miyazaki is a genius, and that Ghibli is one of the best animation studios ever created, second only to Disney.

I agree BUT I put Ghibli on top. Rounding it out should be Pixar then Disney.
