Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Nintendo is failing and will likely replace both of their consoles earlier than expected.

Not you too superchunk. Also i thought you made a thread saying why would anyone buy nextbox. So much doom. All we need is Doom 4 to top it off.

Erm...Nintendo isn't 'failing' at all. The 3DS is flying off shelves worldwide and the Wii Ulaunch is more successful than the PS3 and 360 launches so far and doing around 80% of the Wii's launch sales. I really don't see a problem myself.

I don't buy video game consoles to Skype, but if it was there I might use it. I do buy consoles for games and since I love Nintendo games I will eventually buy a Wii U just like I will buy a Nextbox for Halo.

Way too early. When the WiiU is 6 years old than we can call it a failure.

CORRECTION! I never said WiiU or 3DS would be failures. Just shorter than expected lives. They will still be highly profitable for Nitnendo and provide quality gaming experiences.

Then could you clarify what you meant by "Nintendo is failing" in the title?

I don´t think Wii U as it is now poses any concerns for Nintendo.
Miiverse and and TVii are two "weapons" that Nintendo MUST use now to show why it`s not like the console you own right now.
3DS has streetpass, which is a great to interact with other users but that will only work if you carry it with you and if you do find people with one aswell. So, a good deal of it`s value will be lost to either certain countries or groups of players.
Miiverse, on the other hand, can be used by anyone whenever they want too. If Nintendo shows this, it will only work in Nintendo`s favour. And to a certain extant, Nintendo TVii might follow that same path (to anyone).

Wii U, i think is suffering from a few things:
Wii owners had pretty much nothing to play in 2011, besides Zelda and pretty much nothing in 2012. It`s two years of pretty much nothing. And i could bet many Wii owners went for a PS3 or Xbox360 to play games - actually that could explain why MW3 on Wii did so poorly.
Consequences? Despite Wii U having a great line-up, many people who own a Wii U, also own another HD console. Meaning that the market for those core games wasn`t there, although it was for Mario, NintendoLand, ZombiU, Sonic and Sega A-S and Scribblenauts U.
Again, despite Wii U`s line-up being great, it lacked what was needed: a bunch of original games.

That`s why the real test for Wii U will come in the coming months where new games will be released by 3rd parties and Nintendo themselves.
This is where we will see if Wii U is a desired product and how much software the console can sell.

And please, redesign Wii U as soon as possible!

"The console is a box people buy to get to Mario"

- Hiroshi Yamauchi

It's as true then as it is now.

That says "nintendo" as in the company as a whole, not just their individual products. THey'll still be profitable, just in a diminishing manner.

It's as true then as it is now.

However, that group of people is dwindling. The market has changed. People want more for their hundreds of dollars.

This is more evident with Sony who arguably does not have a Mario or Pokemon to rely on.

The 3DS is being supported like the PS2. And is doing way more better then the PS2 ever did in both Console & Software markets.

How long did the PS2 sell well for?

I could say the PS2 was a fail by what everyone else is saying.

And the Wii U already has full Western 3rd Party support with Razors Edge & Bayonetta 2 & Lego City Undercover & ZombiU & Wonderful 101 & so fort in its first several months.

The PS3 took 6 months to sell 1.2 million and 360 sold 1.4 million in its first 6 months.

SO please explain your nonsense about the 3DS & Wii U.

I just want to compare facts & history.

Ido want to consider the term "dedicated gaming consoles", if the next gen system are having all this multimedia features, will they still be "dedicated gaming consoles"? It almost sounds as the new consoles are having gaming as there secondary function, but that's kinda off topic.

That is not off topic and its exactly the point. "dedicated gaming console" is dead and in reality its simply a entertainment device where gaming is still a very strong component... not a secondary function.. just not the only function by any measure. Mearly one of many.

I understand your point. Having more than just gaming has much more mass appeal than being a dedicated gaming machine. Personally I don't want that since it only increases cost for something I will never going to use. I mean why use Skype on my 720 when I have a PC for that. But anyway that just me, and I think being a multimedia console is what will increase the chances for a successful next gen.

However, there are still a lot of things to consider, like price, marketing, etc. Just being a multimedia console will not warranty success (or even the use of Android), because there are TONS of other devices that do the same thing (outside of console gaming) so especially in this, marketing will have to play a big role.
