Ido want to consider the term "dedicated gaming consoles", if the next gen system are having all this multimedia features, will they still be "dedicated gaming consoles"? It almost sounds as the new consoles are having gaming as there secondary function, but that's kinda off topic.

That is not off topic and its exactly the point. "dedicated gaming console" is dead and in reality its simply a entertainment device where gaming is still a very strong component... not a secondary function.. just not the only function by any measure. Mearly one of many.

I understand your point. Having more than just gaming has much more mass appeal than being a dedicated gaming machine. Personally I don't want that since it only increases cost for something I will never going to use. I mean why use Skype on my 720 when I have a PC for that. But anyway that just me, and I think being a multimedia console is what will increase the chances for a successful next gen.

However, there are still a lot of things to consider, like price, marketing, etc. Just being a multimedia console will not warranty success (or even the use of Android), because there are TONS of other devices that do the same thing (outside of console gaming) so especially in this, marketing will have to play a big role.
