Seems to be a big argument about bugger all really.

OT

Er, great.

What I can deduce from this thread:

The PS2 was (and still is) a beast in Brazil, but somewhere along the road (I don't know where) Sony messed up and now Brazillian gamers are flocking to the 360 in their transition to the next gen.

Lol. I have to say I find it amusing the way you spin facts to try and make it so that Xbox is the one doing well. YOu have gone from the X360 beating the ps3 in Brazil to now sony having messed up and more gamers shifting to X360.

Funny.

This argument seems...pointless? Does it really matter? Impressive growth though!

No. The Brazillian market is minuscule

This I am not denying, hence the pointless argument. The growth is still impressive, however.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Is there any data for install bases, marketshares or YoY increases/decreases for Brazil ethomaz? Curious on just how much impact that 360 cut had and what a similar cut would do to PS3.

There are just one time they showed the lifetime numbers...

http://oglobo.globo.com/tecnologia/sony-quer-mudar-jeito-como-varejo-vende-games-no-pais-2921525

PS2 - 5 million
PS3 - 750k
360 - 300k
PSP - 200k
Wii - 230k
DS - 200k

This is end of 2010 lifetime sales... the market grow up a lot after that (2011 and 2012).

There are others numbers too...

God of War III - over 30k
UFC Undisputed 3  - over 60k

http://arena.ig.com.br/ufc-undisputed-3-vendeu-mais-de-60-mil-copias-no-brasil/n1597695396972.html

About the price cut... it is expected 30% (R$ 1399 to R$ 980) in early 2013... the 360 was 40% (R$ 1299 to R$ 799).

Piracy isn't an excuse, it's the reality here. Things got better (PS2 was 98% piracy, now it's more like 50% with current gen). It's hard to see unlocked PS3s, because they require you to download the games and out in an external HDD. Downloading 5~50GB here is pretty hard, because of the limited bandwidth available. I know only one person that has an modded PS3.

X360, PS2 and Wii piracy is way bigger. It's easy to find modded consoles and you can buy games recorded in DVD-Rs for R$ 10 to R$ 20, opposed to original games costing R$ 80 to R$ 200 (USS 1 = R$ 2). A lot of people went to PS2 to X360 because of this. The difference in price on consoles isn't importante when you have this huge difference in game prices (original/pirate). The PS3s mods are worse too, not allowing to use PSN and having problems with firmware upgrades. X360 more recent mods don't have serious problems with upgrades and still allow to use XBox Live without problems.

I'm not supporting this piracy (all my PS3/Vita games are original, by the way). I'm just reporting what I see in a daily basis to allow everyone to have a better perpective of what happens outside of the NA/EU/Japan regions. The situation is improving, of course, it's easier to find original games with better prices and in all stores (during PS2 era, it was harder because of the piracy), the prices are better and all console makers have a stronger presence with services, translated games and marketing here (like old Sega days when consoles were made here and we had marketing campaigns and translated games).

Where does it say that the PS3 sells more than the 360?

You know Portuguese?

"Logo atrás vêm nossos amiguinhos da atual geração, o PS3 e o Xbox 360 – o console da Microsoft perdia para o concorrente da Sony na região sudeste, segundo a pesquisa, mas parece estar empatando o jogo. O motivo seria a fabricação do console no Brasil, o que o tornou mais barato. O Wii? Nem foi mencionado."

Bold: Microsoft console lost to rival Sony, according to research, but seems to be tying the game * the word "parece" is more a "guess" and not "certain".

They're saying that the PS2 sold more than the Xbox 360. The 360 sold more than the PS3

I'm from Brazil too, and it says exactly what ethomaz is saying. MS and Sony are almost tied now.

the spin in this thread makes my head hurt ...

@man bear pig: why are you arguing with brazilians on what the article says? makes no sense

OT: good stuff. Sony is going to start manufacturing ps3s there too right? I remember reading something like that recently

Yeah... early 2013.

nice. Good for gamers there then. Cheaper prices and all that.

So does this mean there's a high possibility of ps4 being manufactured in brazil later on as well? would do wonders to keep the prices down and expand the userbase

Thanks! Maybe with the pricecut in 2013, they will release some PR with lifetime numbers for PS3.. Got to be over a Million by now, still matching a far cheaper 360 too. Will do wonders next Year.

What price was the PS2 at when sales exploded? Obviously the PS3 wont match it due to a lack of piracy, but it may be a good indicator of when we can expect PS3 to really get going

Wrong. The phase talks specifically about PS3 and Xbox 360.

"Logo atrás vêm nossos amiguinhos da atual geração, o PS3 e o Xbox 360o console da Microsoft perdia para o concorrente da Sony na região sudeste, segundo a pesquisa, mas parece estar empatando o jogo. You really don't know Portuguese...

I just google translated that and it says "Microsofts console lost to Sony in the Southeast"...meaning that it won everywhere else and the southeast is an anomaly. The Xbox 360 has sold more than the PS3 in brazil

the denial is strong with this one...lmao. Thanks for the laughs man.

On a more serious note, piracy is a big problem down south. I know my cousing who lives in Latin America is all xbox 360, he has like 7 360's all moded because he has a barber shop rents them to his clients. I have offered countless times to buy him a ps3 so we can play together, but always refuses because he would not buy games when he can just download them for free. I tell them that is harmful for the industry and that less games will be made because of this, and he just laughs at me.

I hope Sony's Gaikai allows games to compete in this markets. There is huge potential, but the complete denial of its importance is doing more harm than good.
