Forums - Sales - [Official Brasil Sales] PS3 Outselling 360 in 3:1 After New Price, TOP 10 May

Tagged games:

It seems the market in Brazil is bigger than what we thought. But considering its generation trend is a bit of behind other major markets, so it didn't play important role to determine the console war.

Anyway, long live PS2 altough I am more fancy with Xbox and Dreamcast in the 6th generation.

one thing i remembered, thanks wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_System#Brazil

"By 2005, the Master System and Mega Drive had sold more than 2 million units each in Brazil.[11]" Brazil seems to be a very specific market...

The sales here are even higher. All three consoles are sold officially (only 360 is made here, but the others are official too), but a lot of minor resellers and web sites simply import the consoles illegally, without taxes, and sell it way cheaper. These sales are counted in their original countries (probably USA), and they are pretty high. A official PS3 costs R$ 1200~1400 while the unofficial ones cost R$ 700~900.The same happens with 360 and Wii.

Tectoy is a brazilian company and were the Sega partner in Brazil. They brougth the Master System in 1989 to here. The good reception made Tectoy bring Genesis in 1990. These consoles were fabricated here and several games were translated (Phantasy Star as one). In Master System case, the support from Sega was limited, since Sega dropped it with Genesis' launch. But Tectoy ported several Game Gear titles, like Sonic Chaos and Sonic Blast. Besides that, they even created some games, modding (with authorization, of course) Wonder Boy to create a game with the "Monica's Gang", a local comic book. They even developed a version of Street Fighter 2 from scratch using a 8 Mb cartridge, that only works in Brazilian systems (the normal Master is limited to 4 Mb cartridges).

All these consoles were fabricated in Brazil. Tectoy fabricated the Saturn and Dreamcast too. Nintendo, feeling the advances of Sega, made a deal with Gradients to produce the SNES and N64 here. When the PS1 arrived, it was imported and not sold officially (all sales were registered in other regions) and crushed the competition, ending the production of consoles here, until the X360.

Excellent news, glad to see brazilians loving the Playstation, should follow over to the next gen giving sony a huge advantage.

thanks, interesting read! i once found sf2 at a rom-collection for the master system and so started looking for it and found out that brazil was somehow special in terms of gaming :)

so producing the consoles in brazil is helping the consoles in success?

I just google translated that and it says "Microsofts console lost to Sony in the Southeast"...meaning that it won everywhere else and the southeast is an anomaly. The Xbox 360 has sold more than the PS3 in brazil

No. Just southest matter... almost 50% of Brazilian population and where we have money to buy consoles. Over 80 million people...

You don't accept PS3 is most popular here than 360 but the 360 seems to be cathing it.

WoW ethomaz, i just cant believe you said that... Im kinda sad for this statement.

I fail to see how 300 is nearly tying with 750?

that was end of 2010, the nearly tying is from a survey made in 2012.

It's not like the others regions didn't buy games... it's just the southeast have more people (over 80 million habitants) and the biggest game market (not just game... cars too for each 10 cars sold in Brazil 6 are in São Paulo... almost every product have more sales in southeast).

Southeast have 60% of the industry sales in Brazil.
